He has a girlfriend, a hunting license and a gun, so Al Farmes, 87, will be happy Saturday no matter how the opening of the 2002 Minnesota duck season turns out.

Farmes has hunted ducks in Minnesota for nearly 70 years, missing a few season openers during that period to serve in the Navy, and missing a few more when he opted instead to tromp in the woods, stalking deer.

He really knows how to spend his life. I hope that I will get to be that way when I am older.

Is the world changing or is it just us? I grew up in the Mississippi Valley Flyway ... We lived with wetlands all around us. Waterfowl was plentiful.

I see this guy as a steward , not an envirowacko.

I hope to still be hunting up to the point of being elderly. If I out survive my before she kills me, then may be a girl friend at that age will help things along. For the other aspect, I would rather see farmland than a shopping mall at my previous fishing hole.
