Once again, the academic left complains that when its actions are criticized then they are oppressed, but after engaging in anti-semitic activities they don't want to be labelled anti-semitic.

"Many academics see Campus Watch as an effort to chill free speech about the Middle East"

Sounds like an effort to open up speech and broaden scholarship beyond rote lefty anti-American narratives.

Daniel Pipes has begun an important project to hold the Academic Left that effectively controls discourse at our universities accountable. Their charges Pipes' trying to stifle and censor academic freedom of research and inquiry is laughable in view of scenes we've recently witnessed like the one that took place at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. CampusWatch is a powerful antidote to the atmosphere of totalitarian thuggery and one sided brainwashing that occurs in our institutions of higher education today and all Pipes is seeking to do is to inject some much needed balance into the uniformly leftist interpretation of Middle East studies that all too often has an anti-American and anti-Israel slant to them. Serious scholars should welcome open accountability as a stimulus to the free exchange of ideas; totalitarian ideologues on the other hand dread it for nothing else quite effectively exposes the incompatibility of their agenda with the stated mission of the university and it serves as a deterrent to the abuse of academic freedom in the service of a narrow and perverted outlook. Pipes should keep up the good work.

Daniel Pipes has a new book out, which I highly recommend. It's called "Militant Islam Reaches America." In one of his chapters, he talks about how certain Muslims have tried to effectively silence any critical approaches to Islam or Muslim culture in this country, thereby creating the type of intellectual climate that exists in repressive, Islamic countries. Yikes! They really are dominating the world, or at least trying to.

The response from Judith Butler, a comparative literature professor at Berkeley, circulated on the Internet, providing boilerplate for many other professors: "I have recently learned that your organization is compiling dossiers on professors at U.S. academic institutions who oppose the Israeli occupation and its brutality..."

How unbiased and open-minded. Stupid woman.
