Laura Bush confident in Mexico-U.S. immigration agreement

U.S. First Lady Laura Bush said she was convinced an immigration agreement could be reached between Mexico and the United States, because their leaders want it.
Mrs. Bush, who participated in the 11th Conference of the Wives of Heads of State and Government in Mexico City on Wednesday, said, "I do see a solution to this problem."
In statements to the Mexican press made in Washington and published Wednesday in Reforma daily, Laura Bush explained she and her husband had lived in Texas for many years and have a special sensitivity for the problems of the U.S. Hispanic community.
"There are so many stories about immigrants and the children of immigrants in the United States. Our whole country is made up of immigrants who were able to overcome poverty and obtain good jobs. There are many examples in my husband's administration," the first lady noted.
Mrs. Bush acknowledged that the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks had set back the agenda between Mexico and the United States, but insisted that Presidents Bush and Fox "are going to meet again to try to revitalize and refocus the issue of immigration."
The first lady said she felt "a special bond with Mexico" and recalled the couple had spent their honeymoon in Mexico City and the Caribbean resort of Cozumel. The first lady is expected to focus on childhood poverty as she participates in this summit.

Massive, uncontrolled, illegal immigration will destroy the US as surely as terrorists. It will just take a little longer.
It doesn't take much thinking to figure that if you cracked down on illegal immigration and the deportation, as well as eliminating welfare, to realize that Americans would go to work, unemployment levels would lower, the economy would improve, and we'd have better border security at the same time. This is so common sense, yet why aren't they doing or suggesting such things. See one of my earlier comments. Money, Votes, Globalism.

"Family Reuinification disqualified as a means for automatic citizenship. Rather, it will be considered, along with the benefits to the US.
The Border Patrol beefed-up 500% on the border.
The INS beefed up 1000% in the interior.
Welfare for illegals is eliminated.
Fines on businesses who hire illegals. (Actually, just the following of the law)

In the Atlanta area, we have seen a lot of the same things.
In Atlanta, Mexicans make up the vast bulk of the illegals. There are sections of town that are becoming little Mexicos. We also have an increasing number of Asians coming to the Atlanta area, though there a quite of number of these immigrants who are placing signs up in their native language, though it's not as bad.
You're quite right. What we are (or were) is a nation of settlers, that has successfully absorbed several waves of immigration.
The current massive population transfers from the 3rd world are not an immigration wave because, under the 1965 Immigration act, there will never be an end to the influx - and waves have ends. With no end to the influx, there will be little assimilation or transfer of loyalties from old country to new. So what today's immigration practices are really is nothing less than the phased abolition of the United States.
In the state of Georgia, we have to provide a thumb print in order to get our license. Thus, they have a database of thumbprints with our photos. Big Brother Sucks.
The Federal Government has put stipulations on the Border Patrol. Once they get past a certain distance, they cannot go after them.
Furthermore, the powers that be have conned US officials into supporting "Free Trade" policies such as NAFTA & GATT. These are contributing to the de-industrialization of America. Just the other day, Bush was pushing a form of "free trade" with Columbia, Peru, and the Andean areas of South America.
At the same time US industry is being hurt, our manufacutring sector is being forced overseas in order to survive. "Free Trade" has contributed to a lot of this. How about giving China favored trade status>
Meanwhile, we have wide-open borders, Bush is pushing for an amnesty, and we are becoming a service based economy.
We also have the problem with unfettered illegal immigration that has come about through the stipulations, lack of funding, and undermanning of the border control, not to mention the general looseness of our borders. We have unlimited H1B visas, work visas, student visas, etc., even in a period of economic downturn and Americans out of work. These H1Bs and Illegals are taking American jobs, putting Americans out of work, decreasing wage levels, and lowering the average standard livability. At the same time, you do have employers who feel that they cannot compete without illegal labor, as legal citizens will not work for such low wages. Thus, the continual hiring of illegal aliens, and Americans being "too lazy". It's much easier to get a welfare check than to work for five dollars per hour in backbreaking work. Furthermore, how many Americans want to work around individuals who can't speak the language, and how many employers are discriminating against Americans, for they cannot communicate with the other employers? What about harassment coming from illegal aliens.
Thus, the blame relies solely on the US government. Americans bear very little of the blame.
