I basically dislike just about every single person named in this article. Whiny, self-important bureaucrats and doltish, coddled "alternative" teens. Such is the state of public education.
To: ItsBacon
Oh please. The hairstyles in the 80s were much, MUCH worse.

If they don't, they can't complain.
Oh yes they can complain. The Constitution assures us that they indeed can complain about agents of their government. Not sure where you get the idea that they can't. Maybe not in China.

Exactly. This is just so crazy. I hope she keeps growing the dreads and tells the school system to take a flying leap.

It's been that way ever since the damn system came into being. Public education basically sucks.

You know, back in the 80s, my hair went through all manner of augmentation: mohawk, spikes, bleached, pink, purple, and one horrific 'perm' -- I'm now a 'respectable' member of society: a Republican housewife and regular churchgoer. However, come to think of it--I was an avid Reaganite back then too... so go figure.
Give the kid a break, she's just being a kid--she might figure things out yet. Then again, she might not... but one can hope.

The schools around here have a rule, anything that constitutes a distraction is banned. It works. If the kid doesn't like it, may be she could go to the alternative school. I think most school districts have one.

Frankly, I didn't read thru the lengthy article and all the responses, so where the hell is Whitefish HS ... Montana?

Do you believe that the inmates should run the system?Parents are not "inmates". They are Parents. Except in cases of Child Abuse, Parents enjoy infinite Authority over the Will of the Collective where it concerns their children. And that extends to their permission of hair-styles to their children.
(FWIW, according to the Bible, God or the "Ancient of Days" is described as having "hair like the pure wool." (Dan. 7:9)... otherwise known as nappy, kinky, curly, frizzy, wavy, WOOLLY hair! Considering that Jesus Christ of Nazareth was NOT a San Francisco gay hair-stylist {this will come as a shock to many liberals}, but rather a first-century Carpenter, this should not suprise us)
But Jesus of Nazareth's hair-style aside (a Nazirite Vow, perhaps?) Parents are NOT inmates... unless you lock them in the system.
The only way you have "inmates running the asylum", is if you are determined to have a Gubmint Asylum, with Parents and Children as inmates.
If that's what you want, it isn't very Conservative.

Now is it really a distraction or does the school system deem it a distraction with no evidence of it being a distraction? I'd tell them to screw their alternative schools too.

She left and everyone's happy. What's the problem?
To: rdb3
Hi there -
rows are one thing - frankly I think they look nice and neat - but dreads are another - I'm sorry but they just look too dirty - and like the person is too lazy to keep their hair neat.
Of course this is from a middle aged white woman.. haha
Seriously tho' I looked at your page - and your hair looks fine - we have a girl at work who wears her hair in dreads - and it always LOOKs dirty - I know it isn't - but it's just so gritty looking.

You're cool with that?

Oh yeah. My wife saw a high school age girl in the supermarket the other night. Bet you can't guess what the T-shirt said. Really. You'll never guess. Drum roll please... "I love to masturbate." Really. It said, ""I love to masturbate." I'm not making this up.
To: BRK
"How does one make 'dreadlocks" anyway??" Look at the pic and use your imagination. First the girl stands staight at attention and stiffens up. Then some big guy grabs her and uses her to mop the floor. When he's done he runs her head through a ringer (just the hair part) and stacks her in the corner to dry. The more floors done the better the hairdoo.

LOL!! (I'm no fan of dreadlocks, just a fan of Parental Authority. Your post was hilarious)

If that's what you want, it isn't very Conservative. Nor is it productive. Hiya OP!
