Sanchez campaigner accused of pulling gun

Published September 23, 2002WEST COLUMBIA — An 18-year-old Houston man who worked for Tony Sanchez’ gubernatorial campaign was arrested around 5 p.m. Sunday after allegedly pulling a gun on a West Columbia man.

Ian Davis, who told police he was a canvasser for the Sanchez campaign, was going door to door in the 300 block of 15th Street when he and the

42-year-old West Columbia man, who was driving a truck at the time, got into a verbal fight, said Patrolman Michael Palmer of the West Columbia Police Department.

“They were walking in the middle of the street, and he was trying to get by,” Palmer said. “The driver got out of the truck, and one of them pulled a black pistol out of his backpack.”

The West Columbia man went back to his house, which was a couple of streets away, and called police, Palmer said.

The other campaign worker stayed out of the altercation, Palmer said.

“He just stood there and watched,” Palmer said. “He did the right thing.”

Davis was held in West Columbia jail Sunday night. He faces charges of aggravated assault, and bond will be set today when he sees the judge, Palmer said.

When news reports revealed Davis had lost his job with Sanchez‚ campaign, Palmer said it was he that broke the news to him.

“I was the one who had to let him know,” Palmer said. “I told him he lost his job.”

You know, I noticed the very same thing in NYC, and have made the exact same comparisons with my hometown here in Georgia. It's cultural in nature I think. In NYC words don't mean anything. In Texas and Georgia words mean a hell of a lot. A lot of moral judgments are made simply because of ones attitude concerning words. For instance, words are involved in the act of lying. Therefore, since words don't mean anything in NYC, then lying doesn't mean anything either. That is why NYC is a Blue state and Texas and Georgia are Red states.

The Republican Party of Texas issued a tongue-in-cheek AVB (All Voters Bulletin) today warning Texans not to open the door to Sanchez campaign workers, who should be considered armed and dangerous.

As for governor, well, there's only that ding-dong aggie to vote for. I'll have to hold my nose and vote for a dork and an aggie.

Don't forget the damn fool running for Lt Gov. This is a weak ticket, saved by the fact that the DIM'S are far worst.

BTW Are you aware that in the entire Glorious history of the Great State of Texas we have never elected an aggie as Governor?

I went to Jr High in NY and had a heck of a time learning this. The only thing that saved me was a kid from Dallas who explained it to me.
