You know, I noticed the very same thing in NYC, and have made the exact same comparisons with my hometown here in Georgia. It's cultural in nature I think. In NYC words don't mean anything. In Texas and Georgia words mean a hell of a lot. A lot of moral judgments are made simply because of ones attitude concerning words. For instance, words are involved in the act of lying. Therefore, since words don't mean anything in NYC, then lying doesn't mean anything either. That is why NYC is a Blue state and Texas and Georgia are Red states.

I went to Jr High in NY and had a heck of a time learning this. The only thing that saved me was a kid from Dallas who explained it to me.
