Zel may be a Democrat, but he has a great deal of common sense. It's no wonder why he is so loved in Georgia.

Why did they put workers' rights above American lives? Why did that 2002 U.S. Senate - on the one year anniversary of 9/11 - with malice and forethought, deliberately weaken the powers of the president in time of war?

Maybe someone else pointed this out already, but Zell's remark above goes much further than what Bush suggested. Why isn't Tommy Daschle blasting Miller?

Seen from the floor? What were you doing on the floor? Maybe you heard from the floor? Anyway what is going on here is the continuing coup to seize power. It started with the Fla. election where the Dems. tried to change the rules on what constituted a valid vote. It continues today with the refusal to have hearings on anything. And what doe's Bush do? Nothing. Just takes it. We are real close to losing the country and people had better wake up. I hate Daschle but compare him to "I squat when I pee", Lott and you have to give him credit. At least he fights which is more than you can say for the Stupid Party.

I called Zell Miller's office today -- twice. The first time I just told the aide to thank him Sen. Miller for his speech and for standing up for American lives not just the Democrat party. Then I thought about it... I called back and said that if he's really serious about saving the country, he could do it in a moment -- by changing parties, switching the Senate back to the GOP, and thereby ousting the devil Daschle. Pointed out that Jeffords did it for no good reason, and that I'm sure the good (conservative) people of Georgia would understand and support him. I told the aide that Zell has the safety of America in his hands tonight.

He said he'd pass it on.... I do hope he thinks about it.

Zell Miller Asks If Daschle Has Lost his Mind!

"....Why in the name of homeland security do we want to take power away from the President that he possessed on 9/11?

Power that Jimmy Carter had. Power that Ronald Reagan had. Power that the first President Bush had and power that Bill Clinton had.

Have we lost our minds?"

I think Daschle has entered his last 72 hours as Majority Leader---Zell is obviously on the edge and asking for a reason why he shouldn't jump.

Good for you - calling Zell Miller. I wrote him but should have called. Talked tonight with husband about the same issue - Miller would be welcomed into the GOP in a heartbeat and I hope he makes the jump. We should all call with our praise and suggestion to him.

This is a joke right Howlin? I was out of town and missed this today! A RAT could not possibly have made such a speech on the Senate Floor! :)
Seriously, this is a fantastic speech and three cheers for this man's courage, patriotism, and just plain good sense! Wow, betcha Hillary gives him the cold shoulder after this!

What an outstanding speech. I don't understand how this man can bear to stand under the label 'democrat'. Then again, I'm not certain the word 'republican' is worthy of him, either. At least when it comes to this speech-this man stands higher than any other senator has in a long, long time.

Thanks much. Very interesting. Zell must be toying with the idea of voting with the republicans. I don't think he'll switch parties until the next election but he might start voting with us on procedural matters.

Dash-hell does seem vile-top to bottom. And after watching Harkin on the tube today-familiar revulsions of impeachment era days ran down my spine. It certainly doesn't seem fair that the late, great democratic party of the United States of America has become so over-loaded with vile, selfish, shallow leaders.

They did show it, or most of it. I think it was Fox News that showed it. I only caught some of it, but what I did see was good! My dad saw it earlier in the day, and he said that a Democrat senator from GA really "raised h!##" with Dashle and others, that were putting down Bush.

Fair enough. It's just that there are a handfull of people here, who mercilessly, and unfairly trash the Republican party. They go far beyond honest criticism. It's hard enough taking rude and cruel comments from extreme Liberals, but that's not surprising coming from them. No, it's the really rude, mean and sarcastic comments coming from some so-called fellow 'conservatives'; that's hard to take!

But you're right. There are decent, honest, moderate and conservative Democrats that exist in the party. Maybe it's better to have a honest, decent, patriotic Democrat that will put his/her agenda aside, and work with Republicans. It's sometimes better than a faithless, backstabbing, treacherous Republican, that goes behind our President and our party's back, and jumps over to give our hard-won majority over to a nestfull of vipers! But I kind of think that there are still a lot of such Democrats left in that party who are like Sen. Miller; but the only ones we hear about are the extremists!

Yeah, I know what you mean. The only thing I have to disagree with is that there were five Dems who voted for impeachment in the house. Charlie Stenholm was one of them, A veteran, Paul McHale, Virgil Goode, Ralph Hall, and of course, Gene Taylor.

I believe those are the five. But I do think there were a group of others who didn't vote for impeachment; but were critical with other things B. Clinton had done. For example: James Trafficant, Robert Byrd, and Joe Leibermann.

I certainly hope you're not inferring that the rest of us aren't.

A bit touchy, are we? I didn't get that impression from the post.
