Terrorists storm temple in Gandhinagar Agencies New Delhi, September 24
Three suspected terrorists have entered a temple in Gujarat's capital Gandhinagar and resorted to indiscriminate firing, killing at least 25 and injuring several others.
The terrorists entered the Akshardham temple belonging to the Swaminarayan sect around 1700 hours and fired at devotees.
"Seven men and women and four children are dead. Twenty-five people are injured and the injured are being taken out of the temple to Gandhinagar hospital," Inspector R B Rawal in the Gujarat state intelligence room told Reuters.
"There were over 50 people inside the temple when three gunmen opened fire inside the temple," Gujarat Home Secretary K Nitya Nandam told AFP.
State police control room spokesman G L Singhal had said earlier that four people had been killed in the shooting.
A television news channel put the toll at 6 dead and 40 injured.
According to an eyewitness, the three terrorists were wearing Army uniform and were armed with AK 47 rifles and sten guns.
A local police official said the terrorists had thrown a bomb at the temple, which is on fire.
According to initial reports, police forces have surrounded the temple and efforts are being made to evict people inside the temple. There is utter chaos in and around the temple.
A gun battle is reportedly on between the security forces and the terrorists. Commondos have reached the temple complex and the Army has also been called to deal with the situation.
The temple is close to the residence of the Gujarat Governor and Chief Minister and other VVIPs. The Gujarat State Assembly and Secretariat are within two kilometers of the temple complex.
The Gujarat government had received intelligence reports on the possibility of such an incident happening. Several VVIps visit the large temple complex daily.
Doctors in Ahmedabad have been told to report to hospitals.
If they truely follow their religion, I would very much disagree with you. Muslims are our enemy!
This is going to be bad.
Gujarat is going to explode.
Actually, the problem is that we don't know. That's why they're called "sleeper cells."
Tomarrow, if the order is givin, muslims could all grab their weapons and open fire in schools, stores, churches, and because many American are unarmed (most) it will be a slaughter.
We'd have no idea what hit us. Thousands upon thousands of people would be dead.
Yes and they tout islam's perceived absence of racism as one of its attractions for anti-racism obsessed Westerners.
Remember when we went into Afganistan the liberals were sending a picture of dead babies with bullet holes in their heads around the internet? Showing their ignorance, because at the time the American military wasn't using bullets? It proved the terrorists shot their own children for propaganda against the US.
I wonder if they'll take these pictures and do the same thing to enlighten the world of what the Muslims are doing?
(I didn't think so.)
The modern, "enlightened" notion of "upward mobility" is part of what I perceive to be the hypocricy (I hate using that word but I'm too lazy to come up with another) of those who would judge a caste system by it's lack thereof. The physical image of upward mobility presupposes a hierarchy of existence too, albeit one based upon striving. Which often translates into strife, even agony. And the ever-present spectre of failure and disgrace.
But you are correct that a heirarchical system can be a terrible thing without a belief in the dignity of the individual as its moral foundation.
I believe in "As you sow, so shall you reap."
The problem with America is that some feel they shouldn't have to sow, because they can steal their keep from anothers garden.
If the Democrats would get into the achievement mode, rather than the leeching mode, this country would be a much better place, and the tax slaves would be "free at last, free at last."
(We could use a modern day Moses.)
I fear that American society had become so fragmented and atomised by the restless, dynamic energy of consumer capitalism. that we may have lost the ability to call upon social cohesion for long term survival...
Why? Are you one of the three billy-goats gruff--afraid to cross the bridge?
I'm gonna git ya......
