Since his election as Chairman of the Democratic National Committee in February 2001, Terry McAuliffe has reenergized and revitalized the party, helping propel Democrats to historic victories.
Under McAuliffe's leadership, the DNC provided unprecedented support to 2001 Democratic candidates -- millions of dollars invested, more than 100 staff members loaned to campaigns, voter registration and get-out-the-vote programs, outreach to base vote constituencies and more.
The results were extraordinary: a new Democratic Governor and Lieutenant Governor in Virginia; a landslide win in New Jersey's gubernatorial race and huge gains in the New Jersey legislature; control of the government in suburban Nassau County, New York for the first time since World War I; and 39 out of 42 victories in targeted mayoral races around the country, including 11 pickups of previously Republican-held mayoral seats.
Upon his election as Chair, Terry McAuliffe promised "a new day at the DNC." Instead of merely a presidential campaign apparatus, the Chairman is building a national party that is a full-service, one-stop shop, helping Democrats win races up and down the ballot. He is investing in the party's grass roots and helping build stronger partnerships with state and local party organizations.
McAuliffe has assembled a team that is launching new programs designed to strengthen the party's ties with key communities. With the new, multifaceted Hispanic Project, the party is reaching out as never before to the fastest growing ethnic group in the nation. A new Women's Vote Center has stepped up the party's communication with women voters.
McAuliffe has started a redistricting project, which provides support to state parties as they seek fair reapportionment of legislative and Congressional seats. He has begun a technology project, which will upgrade the party's information infrastructure and reconnect the party with grass roots activists nationwide.
And in response to the voting irregularities in Florida and around the country during the 2000 presidential election, Chairman McAuliffe created the Voting Rights Institute (VRI). Led by DNC National Development Chair Maynard Jackson, VRI is helping ensure that Americans can register to vote, cast a ballot and have their ballot counted.
Terry McAuliffe comes by his love of politics and the Democratic Party naturally. When he was growing up in Syracuse, New York, his father served as treasurer of the county Democratic organization. From an early age, McAuliffe walked the precincts and attended party functions with his father.
After graduating from Catholic University of America, McAuliffe immediately became active in national politics, signing on with the Carter-Mondale Reelection Committee. It was during this campaign that he famously wrestled an alligator on a dare from a fundraising prospect. His natural energy and exuberance helped make him the campaign's top fundraiser at the age of 22.
Since then, McAuliffe has served the Democratic Party in a number of capacities as Finance Director of both the DNC and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, as well as National Finance Chairman for the Dick Gephardt's 1988 presidential campaign. McAuliffe was also the National Finance Chairman and then National Co-Chairman of Clinton-Gore '96. After the 1996 election, President Clinton named him Co-Chair of the 1997 Presidential Inaugural Committee.
In 2000, McAuliffe chaired the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles, where he was involved in all decisions and planning related to the Convention. Thanks in part to his efforts, the Convention had the most open and diverse speaking program in the party's history. The convention helped give the Democratic ticket a 20-point bounce in the polls, on its way to a popular vote victory in the fall.
At the same time that he is a political achiever, Chairman McAuliffe has been a successful entrepreneur. He started his first business, McAuliffe Driveway Maintenance, when he was only 14 years old. From there, he has started dozens of companies in the fields of banking, insurance, marketing and real estate. McAuliffe is also an attorney, having received his J.D. from the Georgetown Law Center in 1984.
Terry McAuliffe is married to the former Dorothy Swann. They live in McLean, Virginia with their five children: Dori, Jack, Mary, Sally, and Peter.
This is an accomplishment?
EXCERPT McAuliffe ....became active in national politics, signing on with the Carter-Mondale Reelection Committee. It was during this campaign that he famously wrestled an alligator on a dare from a fundraising prospect.
That's a riot. Typical do-anything-for-a-buck DemonRrat.
And btw, where are the deatils of McAwful's stock deal with Global Crossing in which the DNC chair "invested" $100 thou then cashed out to the tune of $18 million?
This much is true. But it wasn't so much McAuliffe who was responsible, it was the idiot who was head of the RNC at the time. They neglected to back the candidates in these races, a major screw-up. That's why he was fired.
Prudential pleaded guilty and paid a fat fine. Good Ol' Terry was never investigated even though it was for paying money to Terry that they pleaded guilty. Of course, Janet ("the Just") Reno was Attorney General then, which may explain that paradox. Anyway, that's why in my column I refer to him as a lawyer who should have been dusbarred and jailed.
Of course, McAuliffe is pond scum. But that is what one expects for a lifetime enabler for Billyjeff Clinton.

The best thing to happen to Republicans is for the C to be in command, and he is.
I see his megalomania has only gotten worse. Just like Clinton, it is me, me, me...24/7.
