Yet the H1B program is thriving with thousands of foreign programmers coming into the country. Before anyone leaves, make sure you cast a ballot against the politicians that won't protect your job.

When the blue collar worker was crying about being replaced by low cost foreign factories, the white collar high tech types basicly told them that is what happens to you if you don't have a college degree. High tech was the future and those who did not get the right education deserves to be replaced by lower cost foreign workers. THAT IS THE NEW GLOBAL ECONOMY DUMB BLUE COLLAR MAN. Now the foreign workers learn how to do high tech work. Now the white collar high tech American worker is getting it in the kisser. WHAT DOES THE WHITE COLLAR HIGH TECH WORKER THINK ABOUT TH GLOBAL ECONOMY NOW ON THE UNEMPLOYMENT LINE.

Plus, off-shore outsourcing to India and other locations is growing rapidly. Any job done by someone sitting at a desk with a computer and a telephone is a candidate for off-shoring.

The programmers are being hit with the same club as so many others, which is that if there is any money to be made in any field it will be flooded with newbies until supply exceeds demand and there is no money to be made anymore. Of course, our wonderful leaders have an answer to the problem, bring in more people who will work cheaply, and tax into oblivion everyone who has figured out a way to make enough to live on.

Outside of Pat Buchanan, who would that be?

It isn't just the H1B program, it's the fact that today's information systems and communications networks make it easy for a lot of white collar work to be done in other countries. Many jobs from movie-making to information systems technical support are being moved to Canada. Workers there are paid in Canadian dollars, which means they are far cheaper than most U.S. workers doing the same jobs. The day is fast approaching when I wonder what jobs will remain here in the U.S. other than government and service-sector jobs.
