are the quotes from well-informed [snicker]and objective [LOL!] FReepers who knew the truth before all the rest of us did. Not!Of course. You're right. Let's make her mother of the year, shall we? No chance it will ever happen again, afterall. She did admit she made a "mistake" and even gave some great parental advice about taking a deep breath or two before resorting to violence. Perhaps Oprah can have her on the show.
You guys are too much.

"You posted at least one comment from me. You will not find any comments from me claiming that it's "okay to beat the hell out of a mother who is accused of beating the hell out of her kids". He also excerpted a quote from me. Nowhere did I mention to physically abuse the mother.

You're reaching and using Hollywood stereotyping on that one Illbay.OR I'm using my own experience having lived in the rural south most of my life.

yes, the mother was violent and i'm happy she's been separated from her child BUT, why in heavens name is this BREAKING NEWS on fox ,cnn, msnbc, etc. the world is falling apart, we're on the brink of war......and this is a national, headline, story!!!! let's put this in proper perspective.
To: contessa machiaveli
Same concept as the amber alert program..the more eyes looking out for this perpetrator, the better chances of her getting caught. Most want to know the outcome of the after seeing those horrid tapes.

There are DNA tests, as everyone knows, that will determine maternity and paternity of a child. Although the sisters could be tested and proven to have the same mother, a sister could be eliminated as the mother of her sister's child, and as you said, a "bogus" child could easily be detected. There also are DNA tests to determine siblings, but they are not as reliable as the more common ones. These tests require, for better accuracy, the DNA from both the mother and the father and in most cases it simply isn't available.
This is my understanding, and any corrections, deletions, or additions to the above are welcomed.

Beause I think we can relate to it on a more personal level than fighting Saddam. We can get closer to it.
There is also a free-floating anxiety in so many of us we need sombody to really dislike. (I am not immune from this feeling).
But, you are right, In terms of the REAL problems in the world, this is small time.
To: catonsville
This mother was not out of control. She did it deliberately. In the tape I saw she carefully looked around befores starting to beat a child, possibly her own. By the way .30 appears to find humor in it, writing "snicker" and "lol" in one post. Could it he be a relative?

"
And here's the real story: 'MISHAWAKA, Ind. (AP) A mother who was captured on videotape slapping and punching her 4-year-old daughter said Saturday she was wrong to hit her child, but said ``I am not a monster.'' ..'" And your point is? Oh, I know, YOU are the ONE who's objective, a REAL FReeper, and KNOW the "real story":
1. our eyes deceived us;
2. this is none of our business; and
3. it's okay to slap and punch your 4-year-olds.
LOL. You're sick.

I'm not really the expert here, but I'll share what I know. You get half your active genome from your father, the other half from your mother. So do all your non-identical-twin siblings. You and your sibs are all mixed halves of your parents, but you're all unique mixes. You get your mother's eye color and your father's hair. Your sister gets your father's eyes, your mother's nose, and the hair color your mother carries recessively from her grandmother. The result is that you and your siblings may not have the same blood type, may not be able to exchange skin or organ grafts.
So it's possible that a child could have specific genes that can't come from her aunt, if anyone wants to sequence the entire genome of both individuals. But I bet the typical DNA test doesn't do that and won't be sensitive to that level of difference. I suspect a lot depends upon just what tests are done and how sensitive they are.

Go beat a child. But don't do it in my presence or let me know any particulars about it. I'll see to it you are dealt with incredible ugly swiftness by the authorities. That's not a threat, but an iron-clad promise. Ohhh. A promise. You are soooo intimidating - NOT! That's rich coming from a blank profile page wonder like yourself. What are you going to see to? How? You are nothing but hot air. A blowhard who accuses people of being child beaters on the internet. I can't believe you have lasted this long around here. I guess every class needs a clown.
To: dighton
Thanks, although every answer I've seen so far uses words like "could","maybe",and "might" so much that I may be even more confused about this than I was before.

She's on FoxNews now. For some reason that song keeps going through my head: "Gypsies, tramps and thieves. We hear it from the people of the Town they call us gypsies, tramps and thieves. But every night when the sun is going down, they lay their money down..."
Oh, make it go away.

Where did you live....Harlan County?....damn...now I'm doing the same stereotyping I accused you of.
To: contessa machiaveli
I agree with you on the hysteria. No one likes seeing this but when a child is kidnapped by a stranger violently then that is much more a case for national attention and Amber alerts in my view.
The media has innundated us with this not as a public service but rather because sensationalism (if it's PC) sells advertisement and increases ratings.
I would like to know the entire truth about this incident aside from what folks have seen on TV (which is indeed way beyond a permissable spanking). This has gotten as much attention as Andrea Yates.
And believe me folks we now have an exponentially increased number of folks out there who will call the police if they see you merely spanking your child.
To: catonsville
Are you so angry at the government that you just can not see that? No, I am not angry at the government. I haven't made any comment whatsoever on the government.
I also have not made any comments about what is shown on the video, about Toogood's lifestyle, or about where the little girl ought to be.
I made comments about the media, FReepers, and hysteria.
To: alnick
I'm perplexed that you seem to think that this is some kind of contest between people who had a normal reaction to witnessing a mother administer a brutal beating to a very young child and a few people who were able to excuse the mother...I do not think suggesting that this mother be stoned to death by a class of 2nd graders is a 'normal' reaction. I also contest that the video we all have seen can be characterized as "witnessing a mother administer a brutal beating." The video appears to show a mother flailing at her daughter, but as the daughter has no physical evidence on her of any beating whatsoever, what does the video now prove? That is for a court of law to decide. Until that happens, the charge is an allegation. That is called justice.
Lastly, and most importantly, please copy and paste one direct quote by ANY FReeper who has excused what this mother did. Just one.
To: alnick
You will not find any comments from me claiming that it's "okay to beat the hell out of a mother who is accused of beating the hell out of her kids."Thank you for setting me straight on that.
To: Glenn
Let's make her mother of the year, shall we?As opposed to what you said, which was,
"She needs to be stoned by a classroom of second graders,"
I have not suggested in any way that this woman be made mother of the year.
I've got some sarcasm for you, though: Let's make Glenn FReeper of the year!
