Are going to find out why the bomb-sniffing dogs alerted on BOTH cars?

Maybe. There must have been some accelerant in there at some point, for the dogs to alert.

As a retired EOD tech I will state for the record that a bomb dog will alert on something as simple as a "dry erase marker" seen it personally many a time........

Fido is far from perfect but usually fails on the " false alert" versus no alert at all side of caution. Dog alerts on a device the K9 handler will then contact LEO Bomb Squad or Military EOD who will act upon such every time.
