The head of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) today welcomed the announcement by President George W. Bush that the United States will rejoin the Paris-based agency.

Speaking to the UN General Assembly today, President Bush said, "As a symbol of our commitment to human dignity, the United States will return to UNESCO." The agency "has been reformed and America will participate fully in its mission to advance human rights and tolerance and learning," he added.

Immediately following the announcement, UNESCO Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura "warmly welcomed" the news and pledged his "full commitment" to reintegrating the United States into the agency's work. "I look forward to the possibility of closer collaboration with the enormous intellectual and cultural resources of the American academic and scientific communities, and fuller contact with the extraordinary cultural diversity that characterizes American life," he said. "Their energy and ideas are vital in the effort to shape policies that can improve the lives of people everywhere."

Mr. Matsuura voiced confidence that the US's return to UNESCO "supports effective reform and renewal within the multilateral system" and said he looked forward to working with the country's representatives to further improve the agency.

It's a meaningless gesture, but hey, if it makes the UN happy, and allows more leverage in terms of dealing with Iraq, so be it. I take the Reagan attitude towards the UN, use it when it's in our best interests, ignore it when it isn't.

What a waste of the money the government steals from me. Bush needs a kick in the a$$ for this.

Is this the same branch of the UN that did up those pamphlets for that Mexican education summit where they made it seem like paedophilia and beastiality were acceptable forms of sexual expression?

Are you guys sure Shrub Jr. is a Conservative?

Aren't we already paying for it anyway? Now I don't know about this UNESCO reform, but it seems to me that if the UN comes around and reforms itself to be more aligned with our interests, isn't that a good thing. Like it or not, the UN isn't going away, so we might as well use them for OUR benefit. If Bush can succeed in forcing the UN to reform itself more to our liking, more power to him.

(RnMomof7, could I impose on you to ping the usual suspects. I think they would find the links a useful resource. Thanks!)

So you think our rejoining UNESCO is just throwing the UN a bone. How about if the bone included the Statue of Liberty, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and Thomas Jefferson's home Monticello. How about if it included the education of your children, and how you will work in the future. How about if it included your own psychology, which the UN will now judge the sanity of?

This is what Ronald Reagan refused to had over to the UN. George W. Bush has just sold us out to world governance. Hope you like what we get in exchange. I don't think you will.

Many of these articles are by Berit Kjos, a world recognized researcher. Berit is a Christian and her articles are naturally from that point of view. But facts are facts, an no one is doing a better job of keeping the facts on the UN straight today. Every single tidbit of information in all these articles is documented and available for anyone who wants to look.

If you didn't already know what UNESCO is all about, you are about to be shocked.

Most of these articles are not strictly about UNESCO, but then UNESCO is part of a much bigger UN strategy. As you read these articles, you will begin to see the complete picture unfolding. Many things you have seen going on in government, in schools, in the news, even in your own community, and company that may have baffled you, will suddenly be understandable -- and when you understand, you will be very angry.

I hear you. But our founding Fathers warned of this for good reason.I do not think we as a country should ever coddle and allign with tyranny.

Oh yes! I'm afraid that kind of wisdom has been missing in our government for a long time, and will probably never be recovered.

And we're entagled up to our eye-balls, and it just keeps getting worse.

What are your plans for the future, assuming you are allowed to have any?

(I'm always interested in what individuals plan to do about securing their own liberty, since the government is bent on eliminating it all.)

Simply put a song says it all too well.

God Bless the U.S.A.

By Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone I’d worked for all my life,And I had to start again with just my children and my wife. I’d thank my lucky stars to be living here today,‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American where as least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me. And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today. ‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee, across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea, From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA, Well, there’s pride in every American heart, and it’s time to stand and say:

I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me. And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today. ‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

This makes me absolutely sick, T-Ra. We should be disassociating ourselves from the UN, not acquiescing to their globalist dictates.

I expect so. What do we have left for the UN to grab? Let's see...it owns the Washington Monument, the Grand Canyon, our Liberty Bell, Yosemite Nat'l Park...... This was a HUGE mistake, George. HUGE.

"George W. Bush has just sold us out to world governance."

This is what happens when we elect Rockerfella Republicans. Next time let's look for a real Conservative.

That's true. Where do you propose to find your "real conservative?"
