Suspected Terrorist Arrested In Florida
Iqbal Munawar Arrested In Alleged Immigration Scheme
UPDATED: 3:25 p.m. EDT September 14, 2002
MIAMI -- Iqbal Munawar, who was on the FBI's list of suspected terrorists, was jailed as he tried to fly from Miami to Tampa, Fla., Friday morning.
Munawar and two other men have been charged with smuggling illegal aliens from the Middle East into the United States on airplanes through Miami International Airport and John F. Kennedy Airport.
The suspects are accused of making more than $100,000 in the smuggling operation, selling more than 1,000 false visas to illegal immigrants.
Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas talked to a local television station about Munawar's arrest.
"Quite frankly, with all due respect to what we've been seeing today, I think the arrest of the individual at Miami (Friday) from the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list is probably more significant than what happened in Collier County because that individual is a real suspect. We know he has links to terrorist activities and that arrest may have, in fact, avoided something worse from happening," Penelas said.
The 40-year-old Munawar has been living in Brandon, Fla., on the state's west coast. The FBI tracked Munawar as he entered the United States two nights ago through Miami International Airport.
yes. very interesting.
Arabs, so far, appear to be up the major component of the Jihadist terror movement. In other words it is not far fetched to say "arab = (at the very LEAST) potential terrorist. What is there about this crystal clear concept that you do not understand?
Before this gets totally out of hand .... they were heading in OPPOSITE directions. Not to take anything away from the looniness of Florida.
What did Terrence Mcauliffe know, and when did he know it?
be a U.S. citizen (or know a U.S. citizen).
be a Florida resident (or have visited Florida in the past 10 years).
be 18 years old (you may pre-register if you are 17).
not now be adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting in Florida or any other state (residents of Broward and Dade counties may be mentally incapacitated).
not have been convicted of a felony without your civil rights having been restored pursuant to law (or enrolled in medical school).
not claim the right to vote in another county or state (beyond the permitted 3 Florida resident votes (Dem) or one resident vote (Rep)).
I guess more correctly put, one could say: they were travelling to the same destination?
Let's say there have been 100 illegal Arabs arrested for terrorism in the last year in America, out of, say, 100,000 such in the country. I mean real terrorism, not bureaucratic diddly like overstaying visas.
The thing I don't understand about your 'crystal clear concept' is how one-in-a-thousand is anything BUT far-fetched.
Until Elian Gonzales, then the 2000 Presidential election, I had never paid any attention to news out of Florida. But now, I must say...wow!!
Orlando Salinas with FOXNEWS is on everday with the latest from sunny/funny Fl.
You Floridians owe we Californians an apology or at least, give us a break now and then...lol
...except New York where you spend your winters.
Anyone ever opine on why they were taking the round-about way to Miami?
ROTFL! Be sure to check out this thread if you haven't already.
