Suspected Terrorist Arrested In Florida
Iqbal Munawar Arrested In Alleged Immigration Scheme
UPDATED: 3:25 p.m. EDT September 14, 2002
MIAMI -- Iqbal Munawar, who was on the FBI's list of suspected terrorists, was jailed as he tried to fly from Miami to Tampa, Fla., Friday morning.
Munawar and two other men have been charged with smuggling illegal aliens from the Middle East into the United States on airplanes through Miami International Airport and John F. Kennedy Airport.
The suspects are accused of making more than $100,000 in the smuggling operation, selling more than 1,000 false visas to illegal immigrants.
Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas talked to a local television station about Munawar's arrest.
"Quite frankly, with all due respect to what we've been seeing today, I think the arrest of the individual at Miami (Friday) from the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list is probably more significant than what happened in Collier County because that individual is a real suspect. We know he has links to terrorist activities and that arrest may have, in fact, avoided something worse from happening," Penelas said.
The 40-year-old Munawar has been living in Brandon, Fla., on the state's west coast. The FBI tracked Munawar as he entered the United States two nights ago through Miami International Airport.

IMHO, our intelligence agencies have probably known about this guy and many others for quite sometime. They typically want to observe them for a time to determine their contacts and their activities before picking them up. With the recent concern for a terrorist incident nationwide, I suspect that those in charge did not want to risk an incident by someone under surveillance. Accordingly, a number of these types have been picked up.

Another al Qaeda cRat bites the dust!

Interesting that the three 'practical jokers' just happened to be heading in the same direction. Let's hope this fact hasn't escaped the law.

This is a great catch re the Cuban/Fidel connection. Fidel has never met an anti American Terrorist that he didn't love. Particuliarly the al Qaeda cRats that can pay him big money for his help!

But I thought Cuba was our 'special friend' now and we were going to get rid of that nasty ol' embargo, etc. etc. /sarcasm
We know Castro is/has/continues developing bio-weapons, etc. Sponsoring revolutionary movements across Latin America. Supporting Marxist candidates, etc. etc. but free trade is supposed to make him see the light? b.s.

Another registered Democrat rolled up? Another Al QuaedoCrat

Hmmmmm...Miami to Tampa huh? Interesting that the three 'practical jokers' just happened to be heading in the same direction. On the same day. Nothing to see here, move on.I think you are mistaken. The others were going Tampa-Miami.

How very dramatic.

Picked up - yes - especially as we get ready to go to war. Don't want terrorists here taking orders from Saddam.

"The investigation was based on an anonymous letter received at the U.S. consulate in Bombay, India, in June 2001."
Good work, Dog. Good to keep in mind when any of those dreary naysayers who harp that nothing is being done to catch and prosecute terrorist and who expect instant gratification. Its a complicated, world-wide process

Yeah I wondered about that too. Were they on their way to Miami to pick this guy up and take him back to Tampa? Is that why they were concerned about running late? Wanting to make sure that they were at the airport with plenty of time??
Hard to say since Miami seems to be a haven for these guys. Probably just a coincidence, but I'm glad they caught this guy just the same.

The real question... Has he donated money to the DNC in any way? AND, is he a registered Democrat? A pattern IS developing.

I'm very excited and pleased by ALL the arrests of the last few days, both here and overseas. Finally some good news from the real war front as opposed to all the jaw-jaw about Saddam.
The only thing disturbing in the wake of these arrests is the left-wing press demanding, for example, that evidence be shown that the Lackawanna traitors had PLANS for a specific attack! The fact that they travelled half the way around the world to attend Bin Laden's University of Evil is quite sufficient for me to see them hanged in the public square.
To: testforecho
Sorry, but what's the terrorist connection? The guy's running a Wetback operation, or whatever the Arab equivalent is. Is there anything 'terrorist' about that except that the word generates more headlines than 'immigrant smuggler' would?
