Hey Meek, I don't know about you, but I gotta believe Kirk is diggin' his own hole here. I haven't kept close track of the numbers, but he must be losing ground or he wouldn't be working so hard on the "coalition of victims" to come out from under their rocks. Your thoughts?

So just why aren't Kirk's poll numbers dropping like a rock? What is going on in Texas?

This is classic stuff... The pic won't post???

Ron Kirk for Senate?

SenatorKirk.com

Senate candidate Ron Kirk celebrating the $125 million dollar handout given to Kirk’s friend and billionaire to build his new sports arena.  His wife, Matrice, sat on a board of one of Hicks’ companies. If elected Senator, would he do something similar with your money?

Former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk has become somewhat of a media darling throughout Texas.  He’s charming, witty, and a polished politician.  He says the right things at the right times, and is a master at wooing the press. So why, then, would anyone possibly want to vote against him?

Four Good Reasons to Vote NO KIRK:

1) He left Dallas $95 million dollars in the red.

Ron spent much of his tenure as Mayor of Dallas working on lining the pockets of his rich, white friends.  He laid the groundwork for one of these while his wife served on the board of one of his friend’s companies (read the Houston Chronicle story). He virtually ignored the rest of the citizens of Dallas, and he’ll do the same to Texas.

2) He is not open, nor is he honest.

Honesty, openness and ethics are cornerstones of our American democracy. We rely on our leaders to place constituents and the Country above themselves.  Ron Kirk brokered deals that benefitted himself and his rich, white, Dallas friends while serving as Mayor.

While his opponent, John Cornyn has produced 8 years of income tax statements, Kirk has consistently refused to provide anything--except for a cursory look at his 2001 tax return by the media in which they were prohibited from copying details (read the Dallas Morning News story).

Ironically, news reporters found that the Kirks sold some of their options in Clear Channel Communications--options given to Matrice Kirk (Ron’s wife) while Ron laid the goundwork for a $125 million dollar handout to a billionaire friend.

    Kirk’s profit, this time: $275,998

3) He has a track record of unprofessional conduct and vendettas.

4) If Kirk wins, BOTH Texas senators will be from Dallas.

While this may be good news if you are a rich, white, Dallas friend of Ron Kirk, it is bad news for the rest of Texans.  If you live in Houston, you lose. If you live in Austin, San Antonio or El Paso, you lose.  If you are a common mere mortal in Dallas, you lose too!

Don’t let Kirk’s charm fool you. He is a dishonest politician who is in the game for himself--NOT Texas. Had Kirk not given away Dallas’ farm, the City would not be in the position of massive layoffs, and a tax increase.

Don’t let him do this to you!

Vote NO KIRK for Texas!

I think I'd stay away from whatever this Navarette guy is smokin'. It's obviously pretty potent stuff ; )

This election scares me more than any other. Thanks to the wonderful media that we, Kirk comes off as an erudite fiscal conservative with moderate social views. Never mind that he took the City of Dallas to the edge of bankruptcy while he was mayor and is socially as left-wing as Jesse Jackson.

That "destiny" thing that Navarette talks about is nothing more -- but nothing less -- than favorable media coverage. The last candidate that the Dallas Morning News was this ga-ga over was Ann Richards. She had that "destiny" thing too.

If I could get Cornyn's ear on this one. Kirk left the door wide open!

"This election scares me more than any other."

Not me. One poll, taken by the University of Houston with biased methodology, has shown Kirk close. Every other one I have seen has shown Cornyn comfortably ahead. Racial broadsides like this tell me that Kirk has given up any hope of winning. One could make a case for not attacking Iraq, but using racial demagoguery in a state like Texas, which happens to be the President's home state, is a recipe for defeat of landslide proportions. All the favorable media in the world is not going to save him. This is by far the Republicans'safest open seat IMHO.

Exactly like those guys! The good news is that their circulation is stagnant or dropping and that few people read anything but the horoscope and the sports.

Texas is just being Texas...... Remember that President Bush got less than 60% of the vote in 2000. Texas has been able to elect Republicans to statewide offices for the past few elections. Cornyn isn't exactly setting the electorate on fire with desire to rush to the polls to vote for him. He'll win I think but I suspect that Kirk will be in the upper 40s when it's all said and done. JMO of course.

I agree that Kirk trails among authentic voters, but I'm still worried about the dead vote, the illegal alien vote, and the "I'll vote for Kirk as many times as I damn well please" vote. Democrats understand voter fraud like fish understand water.

Not only that, but we have the Dallas Morning News (and other newspapers, I'm sure) printing pretty much every day some variation on the phrase: "We wonder whether Texas is ready for an African-American senator," implying that anyone who doesn't vote for Kirk is a racist.

I don't mean to suggest that you should be complacent. If I lived in Texas, I would be working hard for Cornyn. I think it is actually more important for President Bush that Cornyn score a big win in 2002 because even a close win will be construed by the leftist media as a defeat for the President on his home turf and a sign of his weakness in 2004. But I honestly do not believe it will be close. And, for voter fraud to succeed, the election must be close. That said, if I were you, I would work for Cornyn as if he were 10 points behind.

Typical stuff for a DIMocRAT. He's generally billed as pro-biz, moderate, etc. etc. He's acting more like a non-Texan DIMocRAT, tho. He's getting a lot of his campaign $$ outside of Texas. In any case, the foot-dragging arm-in-arm with da$$hole re the war in Iraq seems pretty stupid to me. The article states Cornyn 46 to Kirk 44 I believe, but not sure if that's an accurate poll number or not.

I think the one on the right (below) would be the one Texas would get if he's elected. Cornyn will win, imho, and he'll get my vote, of course !!:

Ron Kirk for U.S. Senate ? Which Kirk would we get?
