September 12, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - Gen. Tommy Franks, head of the U.S. Central Command, presented his latest plan to topple Saddam Hussein to top generals this week, as war planning against Iraq intensified inside the Pentagon.
Military sources told The Post last night that Franks unveiled the updated Iraqi battle plan - which included a detailed list of targets for massive airstrikes, as well as plans for rapid deployment of as many as 75,000 troops - on Tuesday, at a top-secret meeting with the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

We don't have to "take" anything. Just find the factories and stockpiles and the means of production, wipe them out and leave. That is a dumb statement. How does your "plan" facilitate President Bush's stated goal of a regime change in Iraq?

I think you have the real reason nailed-down for this leak. I think there are certain kinds of information fed to suspected blabbermouths-to-the-press, and alot of the loose lips stuff comes straight from Congressional staffers if not from members themselves.
Rememeber the senators who browned their trousers when Bush's Justice Dept was asking for lie-detector tests for senators just in the past few weeks.

....at a top-secret meeting with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Uhhh...yeah.
Actually, I think it is the CONTENTS of the meeting that is top-secret. I can see no reason to keep secret the fact that the meeting occurred.

"if the target is not someplace else altogether"The correct target would be Iran. They are a major sponsor of militant Islam, and have been building the most powerful military in the region. Furthermore, great rifts have developed over the past year within their society and ruling class. Large anti-government protests have begun, and Iran has officially complained about US covert activity in their country recently.
Iran first, then Iraq. After that the House of Saud will be kissing our rear ends to be allowed to stay in power.
US colonial rule of Iran and Iraq would be the single greatest advancement of world civilization in 100 years. (Germany and Japan were more civilized when we took military control in the 1940's)

Umm.. hate to say it but they were both western colonies not long ago. Iraq was a country invented by the British (cobbled together from the Kurds and a couple of other tribes), and Iran was basically our colony, up to the 1970's, until the Iranian revolution. (Remember the Shah of Iran, etc.?)
After the Iranian revolution we funded Saddam Hussein with weapons to beat back the Iranians. Surprise, he took our money, and after the Iran/Iraq war he decided on other adventures with our military hardware...

If we go into Iraq with the objective of taking Baghdad with only 75,000 troops, we are going to see a lot of dead Americans, be defeated for the first time since Vietnam and there will be calls for Bush to resign for this unprecedented military disaster. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if the Democraps introduced a measure in the House to impeach Bush although there is no way it would pass with GOP control of Congress.
This just goes to show that we have some really stupid and incompetent people in the Bush White House. The Joint Chiefs proposed a plan to use 250,000 troops, which was summarily rejected by Rummy and friends. Although I totally oppose a US invasion of Iraq as strategically self-defeating and in opposition to the US national security interest, if we do invade I would hope we employ the Weinburger doctrine and go in with massive force to minimize US casualties against a desperate enemy fighting to defend his home country with no where to run.

Mad, I thought we were going to think outside the box today.
First, gather a dozen or so rednecks from 'Bama. Tell them:
* open season on Iraqis began last week, and there's no limit.
* Iraqis don't like beer, barbeques, or Jesus.
* That boy Saddam was personally responsible for the death of Dale Earnhart.
Should be over in a week.

of course. We need to re-establish such rule, that is my point. We can never allow militant anti-US regimes to arise again. Certainly not as long as we have the power to keep it thus.
