SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) -- A Pakistani man carrying a 5-inch knife was arrested by Dominican Republic airport police Wednesday, hours before he intended to board a flight to Paris.
Police at Santo Domingo's Las Americas International Airport found the knife in the 30-year-old man's hand luggage, said Gen. Fernando Cruz, director of the National Department of Investigation.
The unidentified suspect attracted attention at about 8 a.m. when he suddenly turned away from a security checkpoint and toward an exit as a police officer approached him for questioning.
The suspect is a medical student who was in the Dominican Republic illegally and did not have an entry stamp in his passport, police said.
The suspect has not been charged and was being questioned by Dominican authorities.
The suspect was carrying a ticket for an Air France flight scheduled to depart for Paris at 7 p.m. and continue on to Pakistan, police said.

Here's another one folks. Not to worry - it's just a coincidence and it's not terror-related.

The suspect is a medical student who was in the Dominican Republic illegally and did not have an entry stamp in his passport, police said.A Pakistani decided to swim to the Dominican Republic, of all places, where climbed out of the surf and enrolled in Medical school, all in an elaborate ruse to be able to board a plane to Paris, which he planned to hijack.
Some rather remarkable events right there.

I was thinking the very same thing. Did you mean to say "nothing to see here move along"?

Did you mean to say "nothing to see here move along"? Yes, that's what I meant. I'll leave the "it's not terror-related" line for the authorities

And Medical school was just something to do while he was waiting for the right time?

Medical school for him was in preperation for trying take self-care of the body damage he will sustain if I or any other American MEN see this guy (or anyone else) trying to pull some stunt, no matter where. We're ready to roll. And really, really pissed.
The era of hijacking planes with American MEN aboard is officially over. Keep your hands and feet inside the ride at all times. Weak dogs stay under the porch. Stay in your seat, while we deal with it.
When we are on land, we target practice.
Nothing to see here, folks, move on. Hijacker is beaten to death, go back to the movie.
How 'bout those Packers?

He should have told them he needed to carry a knife as a requirement of his employment as a hijacker. Then they would have just waved him through.

I don't know...have you ever been to the Santo Domingo airport where this occurred? I have, and I wouldn't want to pi$$ those guys off. I've been to the DR 3 times in the past 2 years and there are lots of armed military and police personnel everywhere, not to mention the armed private security guards.
Funny thing, I was there last October and felt safer in that airport than I did in Raleigh or Miami.

Oh dear. I get so confused (NOT) about what is terrorism-related and I feel so reassured (NOT) when the government tells me that it is not terrorism-related. Don't you?
