Nelson Mandela: The United States of America is a Threat to World Peace
Newsweek.com ^ | 9/10/02 | Interview conducted by Tom Masland

Posted on 09/10/2002 4:05:41 PM PDT by GeneD

...The United States has made serious mistakes in the conduct of its foreign affairs, which have had unfortunate repercussions long after the decisions were taken. Unqualified support of the Shah of Iran led directly to the Islamic revolution of 1979. Then the United States chose to arm and finance the [Islamic] mujahedin in Afghanistan instead of supporting and encouraging the moderate wing of the government of Afghanistan. That is what led to the Taliban in Afghanistan. But the most catastrophic action of the United States was to sabotage the decision that was painstakingly stitched together by the United Nations regarding the withdrawal of the Soviet Union from Afghanistan. If you look at those matters, you will come to the conclusion that the attitude of the United States of America is a threat to world peace. Because what [America] is saying is that if you are afraid of a veto in the Security Council, you can go outside and take action and violate the sovereignty of other countries. That is the message they are sending to the world. That must be condemned in the strongest terms....

This might be a good time to remind/inform y'all that Mandela went to jail not for his political views but for bombing a police station.

And to think it was Americans who protested and pressured and ultimately got Mandela released.

The tragedy is that we must always work with imperfect tools. To force the Soviets out of Afghanistan we worked with Afghans.

They are good fighters, but not much at nation-building.

Once the Russians were gone, they turned on each other, and short of occupying the country ourselves, there wasn't much to be done about it. We spent years trying to work with the various factions, trying to pull some kind of government together, feeding these people, paying for charity doctors.

There was the famous pipeline project that some quixotic fools were kicking around. They kept promising to make the Taliban, and the warlords, millionaires if they would just stop shooting at each other long enough to get it built.

Like that was ever going to happen.

Q: So you see this as a racial question?
A: "Well, that element is there. In fact, many people say quietly, but they don’t have the courage to stand up and say publicly, that when there were white secretary generals you didn’t find this question of the United States and Britain going out of the United Nations. But now that you’ve had black secretary generals like Boutros Boutros Ghali, like Kofi Annan, they do not respect the United Nations. They have contempt for it. This is not my view, but that is what is being said by many people."

Another race baiting con-artist. And to show true contempt for intelligence he makes the statement, then denies it's his thoughts! But he made sure it got out there.

Mandelasharptonjackson = same guy, same song.

When captured Mandela had plans of government buildings in his possession. The plan was to bomb those buildings. It is no wonder he is on the side of terrorists.

Well first you have your boss say you have been transfered to South Africa. Then you move there and find yourself a couple of miles from the Revonia Police Station which was the target. Then you get invited to have drinks with the neighbors, and one of them asks you your political views .................... a year later you have learned a bunch! ;-)
