Did anyone else hear this report and is there any other news on the radioactive alert in New Jersey? They said the FBI is checking this out right now.

I agree too. I would be carfull not to yell BOO in any of the forums today and tomorrow. My son has a radioactive sign on his bedroom door, but I don't think I'm going to call in a NEST team. Tomorrow I will go to work as usual.

MSNBC by my recollection is known for "hot" leads that turn out to be pure garbage.

I was watching when the anchorman said that and about jumped out of my chair...

But he said it was a "raw report" and stuff like that has no business making the air. We had similar cases on 9-11-01 with the stuff about bombs going off in Washington, etc.

I realize that crisis time is ratings time and the more spectacular the claim, the more the viewers pay attention. But this is the very worst kind of journalism. It's at times like this when the press needs to be the most careful to get it RIGHT, not necessarily get it FIRST.

[Wasn't Nike] also the name of the short range interceptor missile deployed around various cities in the 50's

The name Nike was used in connection with three US surface-to-air missles:

1. Nike Ajax - the earliest version, which was widely deployed in the US
2. Nike Hercules - a potentially nuclear armed long range SAM in use through the sixties; and
3. Nike Zeus, which was the first US antiballistic missle missle

I should have mentioned that I was talking about bogus reports here on FR from disruptors. But you're right, the newsrooms really outdid themselves and our disruptors that night--calling Florida for Gore before the polls had closed, and all...

So this out-of-towner is riding in a cab down the Garden State Parkway when traffic comes to a halt. Sitting and watching the all the cars idling and the driver's temperatures rising he mumbled to himself, "So this is New Jersey..."

The cabby, looking up in his mirror says sarcastically, "Yeah, impressive, huh?"

Just then a fellow gets out of the car next to them and starts peeing on the wheel of the cab.

Astonished, the out-of-towner says, "Sheesh, now I've seen it all, what they say about people from New Jersey is right, they are a rude, crude and disgusting lot aren't they?"

"Nah," says the cabbie, "he's not from New Jersey, he's a New Yorker."

"How can you tell?" asked the confused out-of-towner.

"Well, for one thing," replied the cabbie, "if he was from Jersey, he'd be peeing on his own car..."

I would have hoped they would show a little more decorum this week, though.

Decorum? Rats? Never happen...

Tomorrow I will go to work as usual.

Me too, but tonight I'm going to gas up the car and throw 10 or 20 boxes of .30-06 Springfield and the Garand into the trunk. It doesn't hurt to be prepared. ;-)

Yeah, I got to admit that I will gas the car up tonight too. Already have plenty of rounds for the AR and .357 and water jugs. (Done that since last year.)

Here, finn, I'll save you the click: Chemist_Geek signed up 2000-04-22.

So what when dollygirl signed up? It's not wrong to be scared. I hope that she sticks around and reads the inspiring stuff we post here. What would be incorrect to do would be to let that fear control one's life. Yes, there's a chance that terrorists will attack again tomorrow. It's true that 3000-odd civilians died last year, not expecting that 11 Sep 2001 would be their last day alive. We cannot let the knowledge that our enemies are out there, ready to kill us for doing anything or nothing, stop us from going about the business of being Americans.

Hug your family tonight and tomorrow. Then go and face the enemy.
