Did anyone else hear this report and is there any other news on the radioactive alert in New Jersey? They said the FBI is checking this out right now.

I will be wearing Nikes That is just too funny. I work here in NYC and was just telling my co-worker the same thing, that I would be sure to wear sneakers tomorrow. It's crazy that we have to resort to this.

Where in NJ? Where is NJ?

I admire your courage. I think New Yorkers are #1 in courage. I was born there and have always considered myself a New Yorker. Even when I went to grammer school in Texas they called me a Yankee!! This nation will definitely be behind all of you and stand together UNITED!!

The report said that New Jersey IS a radioactive alert. Now you're doing it too. Be nice to New Jersey!

Feh! C'mon and bring it. Trace it back to where it came from, and B-52 the source nations to a lifeless vitrified parking lot. If we had bombed Saudi Arabia to hell when the acts of 9-11 were carried out, no Islamic nation would even dare to look at us cross-eyed. The fact that we don't have the spine for it will just cultivate more goodies to come our way.

I park so daggone far from my office, I've been wearing Nikes for a long time to avoid aggravating my plantar fasciitis. I never thought much about it until last Sept. Now, it just seems to be one of those commonsense things to do.

Oops - I work for the Pentagon, but off-sight near-by.

If we wear tennis shoes to work, the terrorists have already won. (unless, of course, you are Pete Samprass)

I would expect an wave of du disruptors stirring the pot today and tomm. It's their way of celebrating the legacy of WJ clinton while also celebrating their victory over the evil US last 9/11.

What is scarier? Living in Washington? Missiles? F-16's? Congress? FBI? CIA?
Good point! You only saw the dangers now? Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank, Oliver North, missiles, guns, all mixed together in the same area! Get out of Dodge man! Terrorists or not.......

I'll take a wild stab at what this is.....
Back during the Y2K frenzy, the Y2K nutters became obsessed with NRC event reports at the NRC website(which report everything from the slightest screw coming loose or whatsadohickey needing a new battery, to an emergency shutdown -which actually are fairly common - in every Nuke plant in the US.)
Included back then were reports every single time a piece of NRC-registered of radioactive material was missing or stolen.
This includes TENS of thousands of items, all sorts of fairly routine industrial and medical equipment, often with pretty trivial amounts of Cesium or something in them; it's not always (in fact, pretty much never is) a 50 lb. box of plutonium or something.
So you'd see one of these reports every couple days or so, somebody would have some piece of equipment they left in the back of their pickup truck and their pickup truck got stolen, etc. But I think due to regs there usually ends up being some sort of FBI involvement when it happens.
I vaguely remember reading something about the stolen or missing radioactive equipment item reports no longer being public since 9/11.
But it's not necessarily not routine.

You probably remember Election Day 2000. Bogus reports all day long. Including one announcing that Matt Drudge had been murdered.
I would have hoped they would show a little more decorum this week, though.

Wasn't Nike 'Winged Victory', and also the name of the short range interceptor missile deployed around various cities in the 50's, including Morristown where there was an accident?
Maybe tomorrow should be Nike Day, after all.

I agree. The chicken littles are loose in the newsrooms today.

You never know - if they hit the infrastructure and there is a power outage or no transportation, I just may have to walk home to New Jersey.

I thought we were under an Orange alert. Now it's red? I am so confused. What to do? What to do?
