Jim has indicated that I could update FR on the status/progress of my series. Since the series focuses, among other things, on this issue and the dangers associated with it, I thought it appropriate to point that out and link to it similar to the link to the book that is the focus of this thread in post 16.

No offense meant or intended, sorry if it was taken thata way.

FRegards.

The Libertarian Party candidate for Gov of California just assualted a radio host over opposition to open borders immigration. Libertarian Party literature regularly either dismisses concerns over the impact of high levels of immigration with gratuitous insults about racism. Libertarian oriented think tanks such as the CATO Institute regularly tout the positive value of largely unrestricted immigration to the economy/society and denounces proposals to control frontiers and immigrationas statist tyranny. Hence it is fair to ask those who support the Libertarian Party and it associated entities why they continue to support the open borders approach to immigration.

From the Libertarian platform - "We therefore call for the elimination of all restrictions on immigration, the abolition of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Border Patrol, and a declaration of full amnesty for all people who have entered the country illegally."

I think the Libertarian party represents libertarian philosophy the way RINO's represent FReepers.

[Do most "libertarians" support or oppose the actual platform position? A source would be nice.]

It is not possible to know

You previously "knew" well enough to claim it was "misleading" to suggest that libertarians agree with the official Libertarian position favoring open borders.

I can't blame you for being ashamed of the LP platform.

I was merely playing the part of "devil's advocate", I agree with you completely.

It is, I did. I know that the author can't know. I pointed that out. You ignored it like you do everything which proves you wrong.

I can't blame you for being ashamed of the LP platform.

I'm not any more ashamed of it than anyone of any other party is of theirs. Which is to say that I don't agree with every single plank. Not to mention small L libertarians who are not members and thus have no interest in it one way or the other.

I guess Republican candidates are guilty of the same thing. Kinda like your Presidential candidate of yore Bob Doleful, who said he hadn't even read it.

She makes a lot of sense. The reason the Republicans at this time CAN'T get on the correct side of the issue is the Democrats would only grow the vote of the relatives that are here legally ans would with that vote cause more amnesties, grants and make-work jobs for these folks in exchange for the vote.
Stuff in exchabge for the vote and causing fear has been all the Democrats have been about for decades now.

Perhaps most notorious among the cheerleaders for open borders have been strident libertarians at the Cato Institute and The Wall Street Journal. While the Journal's trenchant opinion pages have done much to promote the cause of liberty, they also have called repeatedly for a five-word amendment to the Constitution: "There shall be open borders." In a bitter irony, the newspaper's headquarters is located across from the World Trade Center site and was severely damaged on Sept. 11.

In an ill-timed newsletter mailed just prior to the attacks, the president of the Cato Institute, the nation's premier libertarian think tank, wrote "We support relaxing the controls on immigration." But shortly after the attacks, Stephen Moore, a senior fellow at Cato and president of the lobbying group Club for Growth, recommended to advocates of open immigration to "lay low and don't talk about it a lot.

Given that Bush wants to lead the Republicans toward issuing more Section 245(i) Clinton Legacy Amnesties, I'm not sure I see your point.

How is being on the wrong side of the issue, against the will of the American People, advantageous to Republicans?

Lets face it, the Libertarians were like those guys in high school who never went into class and always had a glazed look to their eyes.
You never would trust them, you figure they'd do some bad thing any time, they rarely bathed and could hardly be regularly employed since they'd scare the hell out of anybody that saw or smelled them coming.

Using someone else's words is called plagiarism.

Not to mention the author doesn't cite sources. "Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas."

Roscoe, I thought Thomas Jefferson was dead already. Did somebody do a seance on FR and raise a bunch of dead-ex-patriots from their grave to post here or are these imposters that need a BIG names to house impudent ideas?
