I posted a link to an earlier FreeRepublic thread from 10/15/2001 with this info here last night.

But worth posting again as a "new" thread. I still think a majority think that we can reason and negotiate with the Islamics in a Western rational manner, when that is clearly not the case.

One must go and live there to know that rational thought cannot be established with these folks.

I've never lived there, and I've managed to figure it out. Then again, I read and pay attention to history, which makes me a bit of an oddball.

Ah, but for you it's mental. You have to SEE the hate to believe it.

There is a current case assigned to the Indian Supreme Court that's filed by the Muslime League. Basically, the case by Muslims is that the Indian Secular law can't apply to Muslims. Only Islamic Sharia Law can apply to Muslims. Once this case is defeted, look for fireworks in India by its Muslim "minority".

No, there are a significant number of us swimming upstream.

I had the singular experience of being cussed out by a well meaning but alcohol-impaired do-gooder this weekend for having the temerity to suggest overwhelming force as the only language Islam understands.

Having made a serious and life-long attempt to understand history in depth from the 6th century onwards I can only shake my head as I listen to all the "enlightened" morons, whose view of history is defined and circumscribed by their miserable tiny lives.

Not with the Islamists, you can't. But neither can you with the Hindu/Vedic fundies that run the website this article comes from. The only thing that recommends them above the Islamists is that they are keeping their depravations (more or less) within the borders of India. But within India, Pragna Bharati and similar groups are more of a present threat to personal liberty, rationalism and secular government than the Islamics are (i.e. have any capability of being).

Yeah, the Muslims fundies want Sharia law, the Hindu fundies want Vedic law/education/science/politics. Secular goverance (where the same law applies to everybody) seems on the verge of flying apart in India. The only ground for optimism is that this has often been the case, yet India has managed to muddle along as the worlds largest democracy nevertheless. It's extremely important for the region and for the world that they continue to do so.

If this writer thinks he has it bad with Moslems in India, he should see the situation in Israel!

Seriously, I would be the happiest man on earth if Israel and India could trade places in that respect. After all, Moslems in India largely accept the secular state, live and work peacefully with their Hindu neighbors, and serve with honor in the armed forces.

One prominent Moslem even got elected to the (ceremonial) office of that nation's president, after having served for many years as the head of India's missile program.

Also, I do not believe the author's denuncation of Sufism as part of Islam's "grand plan".

Sufis do appear to be far more peaceful and friendly than most Moslems, and in fact have suffered much persecution from their co-religionists for being insufficiently hardline.

Of course (and unfortunately), the Sufis are a small minority -- too small, at this moment, to provide a basis for a Western-led reconstruction of the Islamic world.

Stick-together-kafirs bump.

Sorry. Not inclined to "stick together" with Hindu fundies just 'cause they hate Muslim fundies (and more than that, as another poster pointed out they lump Sufis with Islamists). These folks are pushing for the Hindu equivalent of the Islamic State. "Vedic Law," "Vedic Science," "Vedic This" and "Vedic That," might be marginally preferable to the Islamic equivalents but would still tear down India's stunning accomplishments in advancing non-sectarian representative government, rule of law, growing tech-oriented economy, etc.

Not to mention (or, rather, to mention) that Hindu fundies have been very industrious in killing Christian missionaries and service workers over the years. So far as I know they don't videotape their murders and delight in reviewing scenes of decapitation, but again, any such advantages over their Muslim equivalents are merely marginal.

I guess the difference is that the Hindu fanatics aren't hell-bent on taking over the world by force, which is pretty-much a central teaching of the Mohammedan religion.
