As the anniversary week of the 9/11 attacks begins, let's cut to the chase as to their cause: It's the endless mortal enmity felt toward the West by a significant chunk of the Islamic world.
The attacks were rooted in the same worldview that fueled Khomeini's revolution in Iran, the murder of U.S. Marines in Beirut, the targeting of Israel for elimination, the cruelties of the Taliban, the murderous persecution of Christians in Pakistan and Indonesia, the financial support of anti-American terrorism by Saudi Arabia - and all the pre-9/11 crimes of Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda cutthroats.

Islam holds no patent on blind and bloody religious intolerance - but it has been so long since, say, Christendom sought to impose true faith by force that it's hard for many to relate to a worldview that actually demands violent struggle against the infidel.
Christians were provoked by the Islamics in the very beginning, all the way back to Charlemaign, and perhaps even before then. The Moors tried to conquer Spain, often alarming the French. The Turks were forever trying to fight their way through Eastern Europe. Islamic invasions into Europe went on for two centuries before the Christians united against them. The invasion into Europe continues to this day. Note how Albania took over the Christian Holy Land of Kosovo, even tricking Clinton to kill Serb civilians to help them take it.
Hell! This is no great mistery. Cultural diversity and political correctness have Americans hating each other, so why shouldn't the rest of the world hate us.
You also slipped a little bit on this one:

It an article of MY faith that nobody had to 'trick' Bill Clinton into doing what he did; the opportunistic little creep had his eyes wide open.
The current anti-Christian fundamentalist Islamic movements are generated out of the Deobandists in Pakistan and the Wahhabis in Saudi Arabia. The US during the Reagan adminstration supported the growth of these Islamic radicals and provided them with training in the methods of terrorism and guerilla warfare, since they saw them as fellow "religous fundamentalists" in the fight against "Godless Communism".
