"We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The time has come to put the McKinney political machine to rest. There is no place in the public arena for racially divisive politics and hateful words spoken by elected officials. Billy McKinney has lost touch with his constituents. Nearing the end of almost 30 years as a Georgia State Representative, Billy McKinney has too often been guilty of making RACIST and ANTI-SEMITIC comments or using his position at the State House to punish those whom he feels oppose him or his daughter's politics. Enough is enough.
Billy McKinney is faced with a run-off election after failing to gain a clear majority of votes in the primary. Please get out and VOTE on September 10th and do your part to bring unity and cooperation to District 44 and to heal the scars of divisiveness, racism and the seeds of distrust planted by Representative McKinney.
Examples of Billy McKinney's public comments:
During Cynthia McKinney's 1996 election, her father Billy McKinney labeled her opponent John Mitnick "a racist Jew" after Mitnick simply asked if Cynthia shared Minister Farrakhan's views on Judaism.
"On Monday [the day before the critical August 20, 2002 primary election], state Rep. Billy McKinney (D-Atlanta) dismissed Majette's candidacy and spelled out the reason for his daughter's tough fight: "J-E-W-S," he said on television [11Alive News]." [Atlanta Journal-Constitution, August 21, 2002].
The Interfaith Alliance has stated that McKinney's comments were both "disappointing and inappropriate."
McKinney has even displayed disloyalty to the Democratic party when he felt the party was not responding to his needs:
In response to the Board of Elections' decision Thursday, Billy McKinney criticized the state Democratic Party for not coming to their defense. "Maybe we don't have a party," he said, breaking into a sarcastic half-grin. "I might turn Republican." [Atlanta Journal-Constitution, December 21, 2001]
Billy McKinney even exacted revenge against a highly respected man of the cloth for endorsing his daughter's election opponent in the 2000 General Election for the 4th Congressional District:
A scowl for State Rep. Billy McKinney (D-Atlanta) who blocked a $730,000 state grant for a juvenile rehabilitation program, recommended by Gov. Roy Barnes. But McKinney wasn't concerned about the cost or the effectiveness of the program, run by Bishop Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. No, McKinney was practicing "payback." Long is a critic of McKinney's daughter, U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney, and endorsed her opponent last November. Now McKinney is extracting his pound of flesh. His example undermines the credibility of our elected officials. [GainesvilleTimes.com, March 14, 2001]
It's deja vu all over again
The people who brought you www.goodbyecynthia.com have a new product on the Internet: www.GoodbyeBilly.com. The first one was aimed at the daughter, and is credited with tying together much of Cynthia McKinney's opposition. The second one is aimed at the father, and we hear it's also the creation of Mark Davis and other Republican-leaners. [Note: this is not quite the case--the creators of goodbyecynthia.com and goodbyebilly.com are quite bipartisan! We have a Republican, a Democrat, and an Independent]
The site includes a map of House District 44, instructions on ordering an absentee ballot, and a catalog of Billy McKinney's verbal outbursts. The site urges votes for 31-year-old John Noel, the novice Vinings candidate who has found himself in a runoff with McKinney for the Democratic nomination. The winner takes the district.
However, the Web site creators say they're not connected in any way with the Noel campaign.
(Thanks to the Political Vine for the heads-up.)
They're going after her looney dad, and hope to shove his sorry butt out of office in Tuesday's runoff!
If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Everybody in the 44th, get out there and vote on Tuesday!
Here's a link to John Noel's website:
My husband has had a long talk with John, and I spoke to his dad outside our polling place on primary day. He's a Democrat, but not an extreme one (he's from TN originally)and he IS amenable to discussion and persuasion.
I've put some money where my mouth is, and John certainly is getting the mailings out in the district. Vinings will have to turn out to the last man to prevail over the Fulton County precincts. In the primary, John was leading by over 65% before the last 3 precincts along the Bankhead Highway came in.
Get out there and vote! You can still pick up an absentee ballot at the Elections Board in Marietta right up until the day of the election. The lines are NOT long and there is NO wait to vote absentee.
