I don't know the details, but from the sound of it, even a freepmail to her might not help.

She hasn't answered mine yet.

There is no doubt that American society for the last forty years or so (at least since Hubert Humphrey swore he would eat the thousand pages of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 if it ever resulted in quotas) has been bent on leveling things down to the least common denominator.

This is an example of the second way to destroy greatness. The first is to come right out and attack people who are great at what they do, or have the talent to become great. (This used to be ineffective because people instinctively recoil from such overt hatred. But I am starting to see it used occasionally.)

The modern (and effective way) is simply to spread praise for the untalented and mediocre. You can see this in just about every field of American culture these days. I cringe (recoil in horror, if the truth were known) when I am forced to listen to modern "music", or the crap on TV these days. It's no better in engineering or the sciences, either.

If my comment the other night about being "punished for doing well" seemed too cryptic, I was talking about the demoralization of talented people in such an environment. I shouldn't care so much...

WoW! Post 10 on that thread is my first known flirtation with the woman who eventually became my wife!

I just had to go and read it after that. My daily requirements of Gossip, Mushy Stuff, and Ritual Combat are now met. Thanks, Cyber Liberty.

To think, you are both married to freepergals now. (sigh)

We need more Romantic Antics and less FIGHTING here. The latter is less interesting to watch.

"Can't we all just fall in love???"

Serving and protecting our citizens is what we are all about

Agreed.

If the people want it they will get it under most circumstances.

That is true, but the Constitution sets limits on what the government may do, regardless of popularity.

The Constitution is to protect the rights and obligations of citizenry with policy and procedural systems.

Agreed.

However, the Tenth Amendment says that unless a power is delegated to the Federal government, it is reserved to the States.

What specific portion of the Constitution delegates the power to the Feds for Social Security?

"...the government's power to tax."

F. Perkins, History Now, I realize that raises a whole 'nother can of worms so let me put my mind where my mouth is an delve into why a payroll tax is an extension of the power of the Congress to collect trade and excise taxes.

Thanks, cause I just believe this stuff and have never bothered to figure out why.

I share those sentiments. Personally, I'm tired of the "conservatives" who want to "send a message" by either staying home or going third party.

They hurt the very ideas and principles they claim to espouse. As far as I care, staying home or going third party in the general election over a disagreement on an issue are out of bounds. I will, with a few exceptions, support a Republican nominee in the general election.

I'm past caring about intentions - we must care about the RESULTS of our actions, and if the actions will only help the Left, then it must be said in a firm manner.

I know. Concentrate on voting out the socialists and corrupt marxist Democrats first, then we can worry about taking out the Rinos. Looks pretty obvious to me.

No! I will not be deceived by your lying words! I will engage in pointless flamewars with the ideologically impure (to wit, those who disagree with even the most insignificant jot or tittle of my agenda), deliberately throw elections to the most extreme leftists, and generally act like a spoiled, petulant child instead of a responsible adult! (Jest funnin' ya, JimRob! :o)

Jim, with all due respect this is a setup for a never-ending war. There'll never be a time in our nation's future when the Democratic party is overwhelmingly voted out... because plenty enough Americans like the socialism the 'rats offer them!

It won't win elections in the short term, but clear out the Republicans of the RINOs and bring the party back to its traditional, conservative philosophical underpinnings first. Then you'll have a party worth giving the reins to. Otherwise, we're setting ourselves up to keep defining "conservative" on an endless downward spiral just for the sake of a temporary victory at the ballot box.
