Guess we'll have to rename our forces 'Freedom Fighters' and start blowing up innocents to make the world happy.

Sorry. Losing it again.

Caption was written by Reuters/Peter Morgan. Surely we Freepers can come up with contact info or ???No, Peter Morgan was the photographer. Somebody anonymous inside Reuters wrote the caption.

They don't even try and hide it anymore.

Newspapers and wire services are welcome to make claims in the editorial page. Their opinions are protected under the First Amendment. They are, however, not entitled to pass off their opinions as news. The phrase "Human rights around the world have been a casualty of the U.S. "war on terror" since September 11" is not attributed to a source, even an unnamed one.
And while I may think it entirely true that the human rights of Afghans have suffered markedly since they have been deprived of the beneficent administration of the Taliban or that bears don't poop in the woods these opinions, however valid or invalid, should not be passed off as "news".

Here's one of my favorite quotes from their policy:
We are committed to reporting the facts and in all situations avoid the use of emotive terms. The only exception is when we are quoting someone directly or in indirect speech. We aim to report objectively actions, identity and background and pay particular attention to all our coverage in extremely sensitive regions.
Yeah - right.

You judgemental hatemongers . . . Reuters has already explained how this happened.
From yesterday's WP:
A Reuters caption for a photo of Ground Zero says: "Human rights around the world have been a casualty of the U.S. 'war on terror' since September 11." Spokeswoman Nancy Bobrowitz says the caption was a "mistake" because the information, drawn from an accompanying story, was taken "out of context."
