A question that was just posed to Donald Rumsfeld from one of the pool reporter's there at the Pentagon was "What proof do you have that Saddam is developing or has nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction?"
Rumsfeld-"That case will be made in the next couple of days and weeks for everyone to see"
Now between this comment that he just said and what Tony Blair said this morning....does it appear to all of you that game is on in the coming weeks for real?

Would you rather wait until they have a functioning WMD before we attack?
To: LonePalm
Well, it needs to start soon otherwise we are into the terrible Iraqi winter months since this will be a long, drawn-out war with bloody street fighting, and house to house combat and (OH, NO!) the dreaded, "vaunted Republican Guard" and the entire population of Iraq and then are the Kurds really to be trusted and what about Iran.....
To: The Vast Right Wing
Don't know. What's WMD?
Thanks!

What's WMD?Weapons of Mass Destruction.
And let's pose the question again - are you willing to wait until Saddam has WMD?

Rush Limbaugh just made the same exact point you did only 30 mins. after.
Maybe he or his staff do lurk here!

Is FR the largest online collection of conservatives? If so, I'd bet our lurkers have many influential people in their ranks.

all government agencies to prepare for war by November 1st Present their plans by 1 Nov. A little different than war by 1 Nov.
In any case, all government agancies already have emergency plans. Also, the military and civil defense are the only ones who are always ready and will actually have something to do in case of war. The rest will wait until the dust settles before venturing forth on their mail routes again.

Thanks!
Yes. Plenty of jerks out there with WMD, and I'd prefer to be armed and passive.
"Dear Iraq: Build what you want to build.
We've parked interesting big submarines near you.
They're real close to you. You launch? We launch.
You are a lot closer to our launch, and you are a more concise target. You won't feel a thing. You'll never know your launches went any where. We've got a helluva' lot more experience than you.
Adios!"

Sure, if you were in Israel, would you not have an emergency plan already? I'm guessing they could be ready tomorrow if need be.

Once the proof of WMD is out and the war begins, any bets on who will be the first lib to cackle: "Why did we wait so long!"?

Skepticism is healthy.
I don't know if President Bush will lay out his case at the upcoming UN speech on Sept 12, but I doubt it. I believe he will first address the nation from the Oval Office, I believe he will do it at a time that won't endanger American lives. I believe President Bush will give clear and convincing evidence that this action is required, and I believe it will shut up his critics.
I'm skeptical too...we're lied to all the time...but I'm not skeptical of President Bush. We elected an honest man to the office, remember?

VP Cheney already stated that we want the regime of Iraq toppled regardless of whether or not they allow inspectors back in.
If the USA and the UK are about to present proof then that just strenghtens the case with the rest of the world.

"What proof do you have that Saddam is developing or has nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction?"
Rumsfeld-"That case will be made in the next couple of days and weeks for everyone to see" Based on what both UK and now also US officials are saying, they must have the evidence already. I wonder what they're waiting for.

Bush is visiting Louisville this Thursday, and I'll be hitting the road on a planned trip. Something's going to happen this weekend....just a hunch.
To: July 4th
What I think is happening now is that we are applying so much pressure on Saddam in hopes that he will do something stupid--like attack Israel in some way. Then Israel is going to unload with both barrels--and we will clean up the mess that resulted when the $hit hit the fan.

Yes, I remember that we did elect him.
I'm cynical, he may be basically honest (refreshingly) but I'm still hurting that he didn't veto the Campaign Finance thing.
Actually where I am steel prices have gone UP after the tariffs and that isn't domestic steel. We've got less domestic available and more foreign and prices are up.
I'm not down on him as a person, I'm down on the whole damn system within which he chose a job.
Perhaps my cynicism is a mathematical averager for the optimists!
