" After six spectacularly successful Seattle years, the Michael Medved Show has been abruptly dropped by KVI Radio. One of my regrets about this situation is the inability to speak directly to my listeners about this change in my life, and in your daily radio schedule. ..."

I have heard a lot of harping from the left about how conservatives rule the radio waves. On a local radio station here in Lake county Il, we got Medved until they replaced his program with the babble of some "local" ( he's from Wisconsin it seems) liberal idiot who spends most of his 3 hour program talking about himself.

"I'd start a betting pool to pick which one of them gets exasperated with Trebek and insults him with a term even Trebek and his team doesn't recognize."I propose the term 'retromingent' as the appropriate insult, used by Ben Bradlee to describe Reed Irvine of AIM.;^)

Oh, that IS very good.
And, honest to a fault, I must admit that I had to look it up...

What will Dean from Burien do for four months without being able to call Michael "a stooge for the rich."Oh, dear. I hadn't even thought about the impact this will have on "The Workin' Man".

Medved. Michael would clean his clock on Jeopardy. In fact that would be a good tournament for Trebek to put on. Talk show hosts. Throw in some lefties to get spanked inMedved was on one of those shows once and one of the answers he gave was wrong according the the producers but Medved knew it was the righr answer. He hounded and blasted the show for a year. He may still be hounding them.LOL

This is indeed a major disappointment.
Did you happen to hear the first hour of Carlson's program on Friday, when the management fielded a lot of calls from upset listeners? They said they had three options for Michael that they offered, but they couldn't work it out.

Kind of the same thing happened down here in Houston. OK, go ahead and call me warped but we used to get Phil Hendri form 6-9 pm cst. He at times was a real hoot. All of a sudden they replaced the show with Hannity. I think what is at work here is, Hannity has been anointed as the next golden boy by the suits at Clear Channel. Phil Hendri is a degenerate, ex doper, freak and, I wouldn't want to stay in the same room with him for five minutes, but those people he played on the show, were pretty funny. Hannity's show is usually repeated chapter and verse, at night, on his show on Fox.

Medved was one of my favorite shows too. I moved back to Seattle (from Asia) just a couple of weeks after he moved to Seattle and started his show on KVI. For three years I was a faithful listener.
Now I'm in Tennessee and haven't been able to listen to him for 3 years so this blow doesn't affect me, but it's still quite a surprise. Perhaps I'll get lucky and he'll be carried on a station around here when he's back on the air.
By the way, is Rabbi Lapin still on? He's another very smart cookie. He's so polite to all his callers, but can cut the liberals to shreds when they call in.

Isn't it interesting that there is such a glut of Conservative talk hosts - Medved, Rush, Hannity, Liddy, Dr. Laura, a bunch of local ones, - and so few Liberal ones? You have to tune into network news (Rather, Brokaw, etc.) to get the Lib view.
I can get more Conservative talk shows than I can ever listen to.
To: Mr. Mulliner
The Rabbi fills in for him sometimes, as does his friend Mark Larson.
I heard the KVI management 'explination' of what happened and am far from satisfied by it. I can accept that it was ratings/money, etc. But their lack of clear reasoning only hurts their station. Not that they have much of reputation with me after they fired John Carlson for his work on the I-200 initiative (no race prefrences in state hiring/schools).
They have also brought in Larry Elder, who I know little about and Art Bell to fill in their later hours, dropping Ken Hamblin as well. I've tried to listen to Bell a couple of times, just to see what he's all about and as far as I can tell he's a nutburger who doesn't lend any credibility to the stations that carry him.
KVI is now countering Medved's letter, but they're smoking some of Darryl's stash if they think I'm going to believe their version of events over that of an upstanding guy like Medved.
Actually, I can listen to Rush and Medved on the net so the only reason left to listen to KVI is Kirby Wilbur and I'm holding out hope that he jumps ship to Medved's new station in January

WHAT THE JUNK! WHAT THE H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS IS GOING ON!!! DOES ANYONE KNOW? THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! MICHAEL MEDVED IS WAY WAY WAY MY FAVORITE SHOW! WHERE WILL HE BROADCAST FROM NOW? WILL HE COME BACK TO LA?
To: Common Tator
When a station picks up Hanity or Limbaugh it pays nothing for the show. I seem to remember quite sometime ago, that Rush upped the charge to carry his show. We had to write letters to the local radio stations to urge them to keep the Limbaugh show. The news report said that the fee was in the $1000s/month for our local AM station to keep it. Are you sure that there is no charge for a station to carry Rush?...JFK

Now that I reread your reply, I understand a little better. Never mind...JFK

That's a shame. Sean is ok, and a good guy, but Medved is GREAT. Haven't heard Hewitt yet, but of those I've heard, Medved and Praeger are the two best candidates to replace Limbaugh, when that sad day eventually comes(far away, I hope!) Medved, Hewitt, and Prager are all excellent. Medved is tuned into the popular culture, and really knows all the political players. Hewitt's show is generally political, with a few diversions. I think he is most Rush-like. Prager is quite a deep fellow. His show is very academic in tone.
I personally think Hannity's act is better suited to television than radio, but the marketplace will determine his ultimate success.

The only reason I know it, is that Reed Irvine used it in his fundraising letters and defined therein.

I was around when they fired John Carlson and thought KVI acted with no backbone when they did that. I clearly remember the day people rallied outside of KVI and protested Carlson, though.
Kirby is a great morning guy, I've always thought. He was worth getting up just a little bit earlier to catch more of his show.
I think I'd like Larry Elder based on what I've read by him. You're right about Art Bell being a nutcase (but it can be guilty fun to listen sometimes). I liked Ken Hamblin quite a bit on the rare occasions I listened. KVI seems to have made some bad choices, if you ask me.

Our CG is a freeper who's a Medved fan.
I just had not seen any posts from her recently. Perhaps we have been traveling different parts of the FReepublic lately.
would I be right to guess you picked that off the state motto of Kansas?
You would be 100% correct. Ad Astra Per Aspera. More per aspera lately than ad astra though :-)

And do you listen to Medved?
If he is in my market, I am unaware. I have listened to him host Rush's show and watched him on cable. He did a fairly good job there. I rarely disagree with him on the issues of the day.
We will have some new talk radio here is the next few weeks. WIBW 580 AM has axed a time sharing deal with KKSU (Kansas State's radio station) over a squable regarding football broadcasts. Good news as they are 50,000 watts of blowtorch that will no longer have NPR on all afternoon! When it comes down to a choice, I will probably listen to Hannity most of the time anyway.

with a final showdown between Medved, Praeger and Hewitt. The great Bob Grant is right there at the top of the heap for knowledge, brains, and a unique style. IMHO Praeger sucks big time.

BTW, I have turned off KVI. It's the Internet and KKOL 1300 (Seattle).
