Looks to me that 14 of the 22 countries DECREASED SPENDING ON GIVE AWAYS OVER THE LAST 2 YEARS.

If we are lucky we will stay there or fall further back. The report also states the American people give far and away more than any other people. Please feel free to give more if you wish, but don't require taxpayers to send more than we do. As I said before, foreign aid is gifted money and does not include what the US gives in food and technology. The gifted money rarely reaches the masses, it does seem to end up in the elitist' pockets. Sorry, but studies backed by those wanting to receive the money have little impact on me. I believe we neeed to help our own first.

John, the fact that our nation has done some of the things you mention does not negate Shen's statement.
Compared to other superpowers we have done much less of it, have occupied and "taken" much less territory and have treated our own enemies, those we have defeated, far better than any other nation in similar circumstance that I am aware of.
So, despite the fact that some of the things you say are most certainly true ... this does not negate the statement that Shen made in his essay.
Nope ... in spite of the mistakes, in spite of the conspiracies to do wrong and to deprive others of liberty, in spite of the inflitration of extremely anti-American philosophies (and I mean anti-what the founders intedned from a careful study of their own written words) that have crept in and in many cases been translated into the law de jour ... this nation is still unquestionably the freest, the most prosperous and the most equitable on the face of the planet IMHO.
Therefore that we should do all in our power to correct the wrongs and restore and return her to what many of us consider to be her intended path and position as a true Constitutional Republic.

I think it is reprehensible that my hard-earned money also goes to support worthless, alcoholic, druggies whose only contribution to society is to produce more of themselves, or to the arts that make a mockery of values that decent Americans hold dear.
You've polluted. Clean up your mess.
You are very narrowminded.
I will agree though that art endowments are a waste.
The Blame-America crowd can find themselves some nice, little, marxist third-world country to move to.

Creative editing at work. Not me, you. I wish everyone would reread this with my edits. You've made it petty.

And that was the "full article", not an excerpt. Why did you do that? Your link has nothing more other than replies. You should've left well enough alone.
To: philman_36
You are absolutely correct! Shen could have edited that passage a bit more sensitively. What he should have said was something like: Whining, liberal-supported, drug-ridden, Thunderbird-drinking, drain-on-society, worthless pieces of human refuge, screaming about how woefully America has wronged them, and whose only skill is to reproduce like freakin' rabbits - all courtesy of yours and my hard-earned money.

P.S.
And that was the "full article", not an excerpt. Why did you do that? Probably to give scholars like you something to occupy your minds.

You flatter me, and I know not if it is in jest, condescension or honesty any more. I don't consider myself a scholar though, either way.
I originally thought it was simply a ploy to generate hits at a website.
To: philman_36
Or, it could simply be that Shen hadn't posted on the new FR format before this and clicked on that exerpt thingy not knowing what it meant. I'll bet he does now, though.

If you have to ask then you obviously didn't read reply 94.
I could still be wrong, but that is how it seems at this point.
