Democrats Boast of 'Ally' Golisano

Democrats running for governor of New York make no secret that the so-called Independent candidate for governor, Thomas Golisano, is working hard and planning to spend as much as $75 million to elect a Democrat.

One candidate challenging New York's popular Republican governor, George Pataki, Carl McCall openly told the New York Post that Golisano is "my secret weapon." McCall said that with Golisano's help, he can beat Pataki.

Golisano has already launched a full-scale media blitz to help the Democrats, ironically claiming he is a true conservative who cares about New Yorkers.

But the businessman from Rochester who started the Paychex company, has run before and has done little to demonstrate any interest in the political agenda or conservative politics.

New York radio host Bob Grant suggests the Golisano effort, now backed by Donald Trump, is a not-so-veiled effort to defeat George Pataki at all costs. Why?

Follow the money. Trump is apparently angry that Pataki supports limited casino gambling in New York's Catskill Mountains region, and Trump fears this will drain business from his Atlantic City casinos.

He should spend that money on his bid to buy the Sabres instead.

Golisano will affect the outcome about as much as Grandpa Munster did.

Hey guys, I thought I heard that Golisano would run for a third party nomination, but would otherwise not be on the general election ballot should he lose the nominations to Pataki (who's running for other lines).

Can you all let me know if I'm mis-recalling?

I seem to remember him running as third party the first time I heard of this.

Yeah, and it will most likely be evenly split between otherwise rat vs. otherwise pub votes. A wash.
