What a quiet thread. I wonder why?
To: Texasforever
Gee, not sure. When there isnt much negative to say about Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft or Rummy, it seems quiet. You would think other conservatives would be commenting on the fine work our President and his cabinet are doing. Maybe they really didn't want him, after all. I went over to the "underground" to see if they had this on there, and it's quiet there as well.
To: Texasforever
The thread is quiet because those gripers are trying to figure out a way to criticize Ashcroft for this. As soon as they find a "constitutional" reason, they will appear.

Well I for one "as a REAL conservative am DEEPLY TROUBLED with the gestapo tactics being used against these 4 freedom fighters aand there can be no doubt that all 4 are victims of the TIPS program".

The indictment alleges the men "operated as a covert underground support unit for terrorist attacks within and outside the United States, as well as a "sleeper" operational combat cell. "The object of the conspiracy was, among other things, to cause economic harm to U.S. businesses, to provide personnel, indoctrination, recruitment and training, safe houses, mail drops, intelligence target data collection, weapons, false documentation and identification, and assistance and other covert support for the purpose of engaging in violent attacks against persons and buildings within the territory of Jordan, Turkey, and the United States," the court document said.
And pray tell, exactly what is the penalty for this? If conspiracy like this is being prosecuted under pre 9-11 liberalized (I never met a criminal that I didn't want to set free) federal laws, then these laws must be overhauled immediately to reflect the gravity of the offense. Conviction should result in a death sentence (by hanging), to be carried out immediately afcter the sentence having been upheld by a single (and rapid) appeal.
The indictment is expected to the first of a string accusing Americans of providing support from within the United States to foreign terrorists groups...Federal agents believe they have uncovered a broad effort by American citizens, many of them immigrants, to use credit card thefts, illegal cigarette sales, diverted charitable funds and cash smuggled in airline luggage to enrich anti-American and anti-Israeli terror groups with money that originated in the United States, officials said.
The liberal press here is the "fifth column", so I guess this makes the al-queda network the "sixth column". The entire labor force of the INS should be tried for treason.

I remember a local Detroit police spokesman saying his department had built-up a "relationship" with the local Arab population and he thought the FBI interview request would hurt that "relationship". Liberals are such fools.

MM - You won't hear from any of the naysayers. It doesn't fit their agenda.

I can't remember the guy's name....was it Melvin Lattimore? Wasn't he from Detroit? Is there any connection?

Melvin Lattimore was a black amn and a Muslim convert from St. Louis Missouri even though he spent a lot of time in OKC and in Norman, OK with McVeigh, Rosencrans, Hussaini and Moussaoui.
I am not aware yet whether or not there is any connection between Lattimore and the cast of characters picked up in Detroit. There could be a connection in that Lattimore could have known them or of them but I just do not know yet.

Thanks muchly.
To: Fred Mertz
OKC Submariner already answered your Lattimore/Menepta.
It seems to me also that there have been a few other arrests around Detroit, but I can't tell you who they were at the moment. I went through my list of known/suspected terrorists and found none in the Detroit area. But I'm probably about 1800-2000 stories behind at the moment. I try to get some logged onto my list every day, but the stories just keep coming faster than I can log them. And that's NOT a complaint.
I know the authorities can't get them all; but the more, the better!
