By any chance does Jeff Katz work for the 'Onion' ?

Next 'item' we'll hear about is the "203 Cannibals Sent To U.S. To Work As Surgeons".

Maybe I should tell them about the Lt. from Yemen that I was helping to train as an F-16 mechanic.

Nah - they wouldn't believe it.

~~~Thanks for the insight. I think eventually we will have to deal with the Saudis like how we eventually won against the soviets.~~~
Shhhhhh! I don't think the Soviets know WE won yet. Stratergery! :-)
And you are welcome.
The more I think about post #27 of this thread the more I think it deserves it's own thread-- but I wouldn't want to tip off our enemies. But I would like to know what the military strategists on FreeRepublic think about it. I fear it won't get the attention it deserves buried in this thread.
Oh woe is me......
Yeah, it is, and that worries me. I think I'll just let it lie and see if it finds it's own legs. People seem to be reading and responding to the "Airline Mechanic Training" part of this thread and missing post #27. Kinda funny.
This is my first thought, also. I'm thinking, if this info is not common knowledge, how can we expect the American people to react with outrage over this?
Oh, I'm afraid too! But much more disgusted than scared.
This can't be true, if it is I believe we should all march on Washington now! No middle eastern men should be allowed near an airport training center of any type for now. Is our government protecting us or not!!!
I totally support GW but please stop this PC crap!!!
When they commandeered those 767's they basically took control of the biggest, baddest heretofore untested semi-organic weapon of war to stride/soar over the earth. This was all very symbolic to the enemy. They see the airplane as the modern white steed; it is their nomadic mode of transport and warmaking. They are going whole hog into avianics. Simple, copied but a highly lethal and destructive means to pinpoint an attack. They will do another synchronized airline assault just to show us that we are helpless to stop them. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't perfect a way to subdue a cabin of people with chemical delivered via aerosol and therefore be able to overwhelm the cockpit. We have got to do more to thwart their ability to do something like this.
If you did something and it was hugely successful, wouldn't you do it again?
Musket...well, to be fair, I probably shouldn't have posted that essay on THIS thread. I was only attempting to respond to a comment by an earlier poster. The essay I posted really didn't add to THIS thread...re: mechanics. So feel free to post it as it's own thread.
Hey--great idea! It solves the "biowaste disposal problem". As long as they don't eat at the operating table, it ought to work out---LOL!!
White House rethinking 9/11 foreign flight restrictions
By MARY LOU PICKEL Atlanta Journal-Constitution Staff Writer
The Bush administration is reportedly backing off a proposal to restrict foreign air carriers from flying over Sept. 11 crash sites during the anniversary of the attacks.
But a Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman said late Thursday that no decision had been made.
"There will be a decision on this tomorrow, with everyone at the table," FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown said.
The Pentagon had proposed restricting foreign-owned commercial and cargo aircraft, as well as small planes and charter planes, from flying into and from New York and Washington, and over Somerset County, Pa., during certain hours on Sept. 11. Restrictions would extend into Sept. 12 and 13 in New York.
The Associated Press reported late Thursday that top government officials were preparing to drop the idea, after hearing protests from the carriers. Officials concluded the ban may be illegal because international treaties bar singling out foreign carriers, the AP reported, citing an unnamed senior administration official.
The government is likely to keep the restrictions on general aviation and charter flights, however, the AP said. Also, all flights will be subject to standard restrictions when President Bush visits the attack sites.
A spokeswoman for the International Air Transport Association, which represents U.S. and foreign-owned airlines, had said the extended restrictions on foreign flights would suggest "that a foreign airline isn't as secure as a domestic airline, and that certainly isn't the case."
David Stempler, president of the Air Travelers Association, expressed concern that the plan would inconvenience travelers and increase anxieties about Sept. 11.
The proposed restrictions on small planes would ban planes under 12,500 pounds from New York from 7 a.m. Sept. 11 to 8 p.m. Sept. 13.
It would allow aircraft over 12,500 pounds to fly so long as they took off from airports with control towers and operated under instrument flight rules, which requires filing flight plans and being in contact with air traffic controllers.
