Bin Laden wouldn't use them unless he had enough to put one in every major US city. Going nuclear means we go nuclear, metaphorically speaking. Bin Laden and his ilk are not dummies. They plot, they wait, and they do enough to piss us off, but they want islam to survive. If say, Bin Laden's group blew one up in NY, LA, and Chicago... Iran, Iraq, Libya, Syria would cease to exist as we know it. They know it. They will attack us again, but conventionally. I honestly think they will not trade 50,000 american dead for 10 million muslim dead. It doesn't make strategic sense for them to do it.

It is a perfect blackmail weapon though. You touch our leaders and we will blow it up. This is probably what they are thinking.

It makes infinitely more sense to wait until we're heavy into Iraq before a nuclear or wmd attack.

Remember, those vermin forced the government of the richest, most powerful nation on the planet into Nuclear Survivability Mode...with boxcutters, boxcutters, man.

They are intelligent, well-funded master strategists and they have the highest motivation - they're doing God's work.

Unfortunately the venture into Iraq is only a thinly veiled cover masking our lack of conviction and inability to combat terrorism.

Politically, the US lacks the ability to get the job done.
Our borders are still sieves, immigration is a joke, political correctness prevents any substantive effort to kill the enemy, and on and on.

Make no mistake about it, one, maybe more major domestic 'events' will be required before what needs to be done is done.

I have a theory. I think he is waiting for us to attack Iraq. Then, when he does set off the bomb, liberals and other idiots will say, "see? We told you you shouldn't have attacked Iraq! This would have never happened if you would have let them alone!" 9/11 brought this country together. If another terrorist attack was thought to have been retaliation for sticking our noses in Iraq's business, then I believe that this country would not be so united following such an attack.

Agreed. The hard part in pulling that kind of scheme off is actually getting the suitcase nuke. Obviously once you have one (and especially if it were in the States already), it would only be a matter of simply walking to Central Park (or whereever) and just blowing it up.

He doesn't have it, for this clear, undeniable reason.

They must measure our resolve. If they get the notion that the destruction of Mecca would result from detonating a nuke in the US, then they might geive this a pass. On the other hand, if they come to believe that the US would merely wipe out aspirin factories or talk the issue to death, they will use a nuke on a US city.
