Shawn Hannity was just talking to "Doug". Hannity said he's met freepers wherever he's gone on his book tour and he said that they're great people.
I got chills. Briefly, he mentioned the wacky members - those are the ones who like to flame floriduh voter. LOL

Your point with that mathmatical summary???
To: doug from upland
Between 1990 and 2000, I suspect that I made about 2,000 calls.Good grief, that's a lot! About three a day, if my math is right. Did you make it onto the air all these times?
Do you have any tips or strategies for getting the screener to select you? No doubt they weed through lots of potential callers.

Great idea. I think that might work. "Colmes, Colmes is so strange. It is clear that he's really deranged........"
To: doug from upland
You've got freepmail.
To: Yardstick
A decade is actually 3,650 days (well, plus a few more for leap years). I think that the most I made is one day was probably five. So the average was about 2 calls every three days.
The thing to do is be passionate when the screener answers, get to the point, speak clearly and coherently, and be interesting. Either call in right when the show starts or try to time it near the end of a person's call. Remember, there is a 7-second delay. Local shows have less callers so are much easier to get through.

He's just trying to sell his book.
Anymore he spends more time promoting himself, his book and his TV show than he does discussing issues.
Ever notice that he would rather talk to women than men. I don't know if its a demographic thing or his feminist call screener.May I ask why all of the negativism???? If you have a problem with conservatives, why not go to DU and vent?

Whoops! I knew I should have used all ten of my fingers ;-) (I misread that as 1999-2000 for some reason).
Thanks for the tips. I guess that above all they're looking for entertaining callers, hence the passion you mentioned.
One more question:
If the screener does let you through, and you're waiting to go on, can you hear the show over the telephone with the 7-second delay, so that you can anticipate when you're about to go on? Or is the phone silent until the host begins speaking to you?
(I've noticed that there is sometimes a brief moment of confusion on the part of the caller -- they're not sure when to speak -- and the host tells them to turn their radio down. I've always assumed that this is because they are listening to their radio, which is lagging by 7 seconds, rather than to their phone, and they get caught off guard)

I wonder if he knows who SquidNuts is?
He's a genuine old timer if he remembers that one.

Just how big FR is growing.

And because of that good will that was re-established last week (thanks to you-know-who) between Sean and FReepers (not just the DC Chapter - because FReepers in other cities also went out to meet him over the weekend), we (Free Republic) have a chance to mend at least one fence with a prominent conservative voice. We cannot afford to be so smug. We should never take our friends in the conservative movement for granted. (Especially the ones in the press, they are all to rare) If Sean never sold another copy of his book he is doing just fine. The opportunity to mend the fence was a gift. Sean invited us and gave us the red carpet treatment thanks to "one that has been banned." I'm grateful for the opportunity because I think we can all agree it's far better to have Sean talking coast to coast about his FRiends the FReepers than to ignore us, or worse yet refer to us in unfavorable light.

I agree. Let's put it to bed. The wounds will never heal if we keep rehashing this stuff. How about a truce or something?

I hate when that happens, wacky member.
To: rwfromkansas
But FR is not growing at that pace....
To: alisasny
Sean Hannity is a much bigger voice than Free Republic is and we should be honored whenever he mentions us. I wouldn't be so sure about that. A LOT of people lurk here. I believe that many TV pundits, columnists, and anchors browse here. Since most national stories get a good solid debate here, many people tune in to read the opinions. Many stories that don't make the mainstream press are still discussed in detail here.
Don't discount the voice that this site has. You may post something that becomes the gist of someone else's column.

I spent too much time on FR Sunday and it's possible I pinched a nerve in my neck that's predisposed. Too much FR can be hazardous to your neck. LOL
To: alisasny
I have been impressed by Sean Hannity since Day One. He is confident, articulate, and willing to argue a case even when nutjobs are shouting him down. When I hear him and Tony Snow, I think they are promoting ideas and not themselves. That is very important because we can restore this great country with the right ideas but we cannot do it by joining a personality cult.
Reagan's early writings have shown he was a genuine thinker. Sean H. is clearly in the same league.
Also, I love the work done by conservative women, including Peggy Noonan, Ann Coulter, and others. The great thing about conservatives is that the men are real men and not girly boys; the women are attractive and feminine, not snarly angry men-wannabees.
To: alisasny
Interesting that Sean would criticize FR for us supposedly infighting......however, when he bashes the President on an issue.....then that's okay.
To: Saundra Duffy
Sean went after our NJ senatorial candidate who's running against Toricelli........just had to try to get the guy to call the Torch a crook. To what end he badgered the guy is beyond me.
