"Star Trek" Captains campaign for Ohio Democrat. . .

CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) -- Far from the final frontier, "Star Trek" fans gravitated to a political fund-raiser, drawn by the prospect of seeing no less than two Star Fleet captains.

Tim Hagan, a Democrat running for governor against a Republican incumbent with the Taft family political lineage and 20 times as much money, isn't shy about using his Hollywood connection.

Hagan's wife is actress Kate Mulgrew, who commands a loyal following from her days as Capt. Kathryn Janeway on "Star Trek: Voyager."

And on Saturday, a fund-raiser for Hagan's campaign featured Mulgrew along with several of her fellow cast members, including Tim Russ (Vulcan security chief Tuvok) and Garrett Wang (Ensign Harry Kim).

The crew of Voyager was joined by William Shatner, Capt. James T. Kirk of the Enterprise on the original "Star Trek."

Is this any way to run a campaign for governor in the nation's seventh-largest state?

I thought that Kate Mulgrew was a fervent pro-lifer.

I believe Voyager with its PC emphasis, did more to hurt the Star Trek franchise than any single action on the part of Rick Berman. I thought DS-9 made the same mistake, but it didn't suck as bad as Voyager. The only two redeeming qualities about the show were Jeri Ryan.

What, you mean Six of Nine?

I'd rather be lost in the Delta Quadrant than in Ohio.

Over the years I've changed from, never miss an episode of 'Next Generation', to, only saw a couple of 'Voyager', to, never even seen the current one.

I'll continue to avoid 'enterprizes' where Shatner or the rest are involved. Priceline.com, Tek wars, 'In search of..', etc.

On the positive side, I seem to remember hearing here that Kate Mulgrew is pro-life. That's not to say Voyager wasn't awful and she wasn't the most awful part of it. Simpy that there might be a good point to this.

It's not his turn yet, I guess. I would love to see Ken get elected to a higher office. Eventually VP...

Perhaps the Dems are hoping for help from Species 8472.

Janeway was not only the worst Trek Captain, she's also very, very scary...my kids would run in fear when they saw (or even just heard) her !! Ahhhhhhhh..it's Captain Janeway...ahhhh !!

If Janeway is the Captain of this enterprise, they'll NEVER find their way home.

Imagine if McCoy and Kirk did the Spock's Brain episode on Janeway, instead. When McCoy opens the cranium instead of freaking out at the complexity of reconnecting the brain, he would say something like "this is going to be easier than I thought!"

As a Dune fan I have to smirk at all this. Shai Hulud would have swallowed Janeway without a burp, the Fremen could wipe out the Federation in 15 minutes.

And I don't think any character from the Dune film or miniseries has come out and supported the democrats. The Fremen are conservative folk. Liberals who came trolling for votes at the Sietch would likely have their water taken from them.

Ya hya chouhada!

"Well, Star Trek always WAS a bit Politically Correct."

I disagree. It had an incredible pro-Human bias.
