Saddam said Abu Nidal committed suicide by firing a pistol one time into his mouth.

Israeli sources, though, said the body was "riddled" with bullets, and that doubtless Saddam had ordered this killing.

Bush said calmly that four bullets had struck the terrorist.

I think it was a warning to Palestinians not to try to make any separate deal with the USA/Israel/West without him, Saddam, doing so first.

Personally, me thinks that we are giving Sodumm the double reverse shuck and jive.

We keep letting these things "slip" to see what happens on the ground in Iraq.

sorta like waving your hand at the cat, just to see if it jumps and which way it goes if it does.

Sen. Inhofe may be the best and most loyal figure we have in the Senate today.

I'll 2nd that...Been watching these congress critters for some time...Inhofe is one of the most patriotic congressmen we have...He's definately in the minority...

With this tactic, Sad Hussein doesn't know if he will get to see the launch of the war on CNN or he'll know it's started when he sees the first cruise missle fly by at tree top level...Gotta be a little nerve racking to the Terrorist...

Oh goodness gracious...Bush the elder told Saddam EXACTLY the day in January when the attack would come if his conditions were not met.

Do we really have to do this old dog and pony show again...as in loose lips sink ships? LOL

Another thread on here implies the truth! It says that Ariel Sharon's long-planned and somewhat extended, social, visit to the USA with emphasis on Florida, long scheduled for September 9, has BEEN CANCELLED.

Looks like we are all right, Inhofe too. I don't think this would have been done unless the witching hour was on or before 9/11/02.

By hope is that he is making like Don Corleone.

Maybe George will agree to be Godfather to Sadam's child.

It is not like Inhofe to do something like this, so there must be a good reason with backing from the WH--I'd be very surprised (and disappointed) if that wasn't the case.

Oh goodness gracious...Bush the elder told Saddam EXACTLY the day in January when the attack would come if his conditions were not met.

That was NOT the attack date, but rather the deadline by which Sadam had to leave Kuwait to avoid attack.

STOP IT, JUST STOP IT.

Will all you "attack at any moment" people please explain how George can avoid getting Congress' approval.

Col. Hackworth on FOX thinks the first week in October... one year after we hit Afghanistan. He did say he thinks it will come before the election.

I think it will also happen soon, not sure when- but before the November elections.

The resolution authorizing the use of military force is based on provisions in the 1973 War Powers Resolution that give the president limited authority to use military force in specified situations, but requires congressional authority to expand action into a full-scale war. The U.S. Congress has not approved a declaration of war since the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941.

U.S. Congress
Washington, D.C.
September 15

Text of the joint resolution authorizing the use of force against terrorists, adopted Friday by the Senate:

To authorize the use of United States armed forces against those responsible for the recent attacks launched against the United States.

Whereas, on Sept. 11, 2001, acts of despicable violence were committed against the United States and its citizens; and

Whereas, such acts render it both necessary and appropriate that the United States exercise its rights to self-defense and to protect United States citizens both at home and abroad, and

Whereas, in light of the threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States posed by these grave acts of violence, and

Whereas, such acts continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States,

Whereas the president has authority under the Constitution to take action to deter and prevent acts of international terrorism against the United States.

Resolved by the Senate and the House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

Section 1. Short Title

This joint resolution may be cited as the ``Authorization for Use of Military Force''

Section 2. Authorization for Use of United States Armed Forces

(a) In General -- That the president is authorized to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons.

(b) War Powers Resolution Requirements

(1) Specific Statutory Authorization -- Consistent with section 8(a)(1) of the War Powers Resolution, the Congress declares that this section is intended to constitute specific statutory authorization within the meaning of section 5(b) of the War Powers Resolution.

(2) Applicability of Other Requirements -- Nothing in this resolution supersedes any requirement of the War Powers Resolution.

Don't believe it. Bush has made it clear he will consult congress and probably seek a resolution to attack. I don't think he has done that. I think Imhofe is off base. Surely he is not a dunce enough to make a statement like that based on classified material. I just can't think we can get a resolution from congress before Sept, late Sept. My thought is that Bush is delaying and delaying. My hunch is we won't invade Iraq,,don't know why, just doesn't seem like Bush is in any hurry. And I trust him and his team.

Wow, cajungirl, I feel like you opened my mind and peeked inside. For I too do not believe we will be attacking Iraq. I too don't know why but somehow I think the whole thing will go down differently. Perhaps the anti-saddam iraqis will take him down with a little help from some friends. Perhaps somebody will somehow put a bullet right inside his head. Perhaps he'll head for the high hills himself. Whatever, I think all this disinformation is deliberate and orchestrated, up to and including the Scowcraft thing.

I also trust this administration because at the end of the day, what with disinformation being bandied all about it's about impossible to know the truth. There's really nothing else we can go but trust the adminstration to do the right thing. I thank God every day I have the ability to place my vulnerability into the hands of decent leaders. I know God really does bless America because no way could I ever have trusted Gore and I suspect nor could most of America.

Bush gets mad about the americans killed by terriosts in Isreal, but he does nothing about it. He detests people leaking military secrets, but he does nothing about it. Bush is against terriorism but he has done very little about it. He sounds like clinton used to sound when he told the terrorists that they had better stop doing what they were doing. He didn't do anything about it either.

What is YOUR plan for avenging the deaths of Americans by terrorists in Israel, for dealing with leaks, and for dealing with terrorism in general? What do you think Bush is specifically NOT doing that leads you to say he is doing NOTHING? How is he disappointing your expectations?

Yes, according to the War Powers Resolution. Unless I am wrong, the notification can be after the attack as long as it is within 48 hours.
