AMSTERDAM - Two committee members of the Amsterdam mosque El Tawheed are being sued in the US by family of 9/11 victims. The indicted men are the Saudi sheikhs Mansour al-Kadi and Aqeel Abdulaziz al-Aqeel. The sheikhs are suspected of being financers of Osama bin Laden in the claim that family of victims of the 9/11 attacks have made against dozens of sponsors of the terrorist organization al-Qaeda.

The two Saudi-born men became members of the committe of the foundation El Tawheed in 1997, that is being led by imam Mahmoud El Shershaby, the Amsterdam imam who got in the news in a negative way recently. The by videocameras guarded building of the mosque at the Jan Hazenstraat in Amsterdam-West also houses the Dutch branch of the controversial islamic charity foundation Al Haramain, which is lead by the two sheikhs.
The Saudi organization also functions as a 'front for terror' according to the American lawyers. A spokesman of the mosque El Tawheed stated yesterday that 'nothing is known by us about any suspicious involvement by our committee members or Al Haramain'. Imam El Shershaby is the Dutch legal representative of the Haramain-fund, that is being led by Al-Kadi and Al-Aqeel from the Saudi capital Riyad. 'The leaders of Al Haramain have direct links to al-Qaeda', according the lawyers of the family of the 9/11 victims.
The worldwide operating fund is being partly financed by the Saudi prins Sultan bin Abdulaziz, who himself is also indicted. In Bosnia, local police raided branches of Al Haramain after the US government placed some of the branches on the terrorism-blacklist. The raids led to evidence that shows Al Haramian is involved in tunneling money to the network of Osama bin Laden.
According to the Bosnian intelligence service this fund is a fake charitble fund, that uses it's 'humanitarian image' to finance terrorism. There are suspcted links to the Egyptian terrorist organzation Islamic Group. The spiritual leader of the IG is the blind sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman. Luxor Abdel Rahman is serving an imprisonment for life in the US for his involvement in the first WTC bombing in 1993. The IG did in 1997 a bombing, targetting the Egyption Luxor and killing 58 tourists. The Al Haramain fund is also connected with the in 1998 by al-Qaeda committed bombing on the US embassy in Kenia and Tanzania, where 224 people were killed.
Al Haramain and the two Saudian committe members of the Amsterdam mosque must pay heavily according to the American lawyers. The more than 500 family members of the victims claim a trillion dollars from seven banks, three Saudi princes, eight islamic charities (amongst them Al Haramain) and the Sudaneese government.
The 44 years old Amsterdam imam El Shershaby acted during the founding of the Dutch branch of Al Haramain in 1995 as authorized representative of the wealthy Saudi Al-Aqeel. Two years later Al-Aqeel and sheikh Al-Kadi became committee-member of the El Tawheed mosque, which was until recently housed in a shed in the Bellamystraat in Oud-West (Amsterdam district).
The from Egypt originating El Shershaby got negative publicity in June in a row about anti-Western preaches made by fundamentalistic imams. In the El Tawheed mosque there were calls for the destruction of the enemies of islam. El Shershaby is together with the from Syria originating imams Ahmad Salam and Fawaz Jneid in the radical foundation 'Islamic Committee for Ahl-Soennah in Europe'.
Fanatical imams: group preaches hatred in Dutch mosques
This mosque is also tied to more Saudi financed fundamentalist foundations, like al-Waqf:
Islamic educational books encourage hate against non-believers
From NOVA TV, by Peter ter Horst en Siem Eikelenboom (December 24, 2001)
In the Netherlands there is a systematic distribution of fundamentalistic and hate-encouraging texts from extremistic muslims.
Nova (Dutch newsprogram) has done an investigation of the political islam in the Netherlands and discovered that in many of the texts there is a call for hate against Christians, Jews, woman and homosexuals.
"I have been given oders to fight the people, to wage war with them, until they confess that allah is the only and true god and mohammed is his prophet", is one of the texts in a book that is currently in use by some schools for childeren aging 4 to 12 years in the Netherlands. The educational books are from the foundation Al Waqf from Eindhoven (Dutch city), that holds connections with Saudi Arabia.
Criminal code expert A. Ellian from the university of Amsterdam says that the educational books from the foundation Al Waqf from Eindhoven call out for hate. In one of the studybooks from Al Waqf the teachers are instructed to motivate their "students to behave like conquerors".
Foundation Al Waqf aslo has a youthorganization where on the internet a cyber-imam answers a lot of questions from young muslims. Questions on this site are about the way islam teaches about homosexuality: "... the argument (about the punishment of homosexuality) that is amongst the "learned" is only about the way of how the punishment has to be; some say that the person needs to be beheaded with a sword, others say that he has to be tossed from a high point and then to be stoned".
The Amsterdam mosque and the foundation El Tawheed have spead a flyer where there is a warning about Christian celebrations/holidays: "How can you join the festivities from the enemy just as if it where you're own?". Also on the website of the foundation is stated about how muslims must deal with neighbors that are non-believers; "Advised is it not to live amongst them" and "We must never make friendship with them".
Minister Van Boxtel of Immigration reacts in NOVA about these statements. He announces a BVD (Dutch NSA) rapport about the influence of fundamentalistic muslimorganizations on education. This rapport is due somewhere in 2002. Also Van Boxtel askes, after the NOVA broadcast about this information, his collegue Hermans from Education for better control on these issues.

Both organizations are linked to the Dutch islamic internet forum al-Islaam (hosted from California). al-Islaam's links page includes links to Azzam.com/qoqaz.net and to an Arabic site from 'Sheikh h'moed As-shoe'aybie', who is the author of this interesting article:
Islam list
If people want on or off this list, please let me know.
This tactic of suing is very interesting and I am anxious to see what comes of it- especially this major lawsuit being filed against Saudi Arabia. It will take years to play out I would imagine, the Saudis being quite capable of literally hiring the best lawyers money can buy. It should be interesting as well to see who (which lawyers) takes the case- if it makes it to court.
Are you trying to say that at some point we will announce SA as an enemy? I would love to think that could happen but my gut tells me that the Bush family has too much at stake to ever do such a thing.
I advocate that as well I just have a feeling we will never see the day. Even if every American stood up and declared SA as our enemy our White House will never attack them and they will never attempt a seizure of their oil fields or an invasion of the country.
