I have no argument with The Bible, I have a problem with people who hate in the name of God, or use it to justify their un-Christian behavior.

You know as well as I do that those who 'turned the other cheek' in the bible were doing so as they were being so-called punished by the Romans for being Christians....abused women are not being abused because they are Christian but rather because their husbands didn't like the way they washed the dishes, or the clothes they wore that day or etc...big difference.

Take a look at IPeter chapters 2 & 3 and tell me what you think. Pay particular attention to the opening phrase in v.1 of Ch. 3, as it transitions from the persecutions described in Ch.2. The Great Commission gets obeyed in myriad ways. OTH, the grace that covers us extends way beyond where a woman needs to go to protect her children and herself.

I know women in our church that have hung in there way beyond the call of duty (in the world's terms) and been rewarded with a 'new man' in the same husband's body. I also know (quite well) a woman that left her dope dealing hubbie, from concern for their 6 year old boy. I did'nt (and would'nt) tell her that what she is doing is wrong; this woman has a solid faith, and if that is where G-d is leading her, than it is for a reason.

If responding to violence with fleeing - or with violence (intended only to stop the violence, not violence intended to gain revenge) - is wrong, it's wrong, even in the founding of our country. I'm not willing to make that step, so I can't say that a woman leaving her violent husband is wrong, or indicative of a lack of faith, or anything of the sort.

It isn't the "sure and terrible judgement of God" that I have a problem with, it is the bile and hate spewed by so-called Christians that I have a problem with, and the fact that they believe that God's tender mercies will be rained on those who hate like they/you do.

I'm not used to that, at least not anymore. My pastors are all godly, spirit-led men and it's a lot different there than it was in some of the mainline churches I used to attend. He sounds like a legalistic pastor with very little compassion for the sinners in his congregation. I can only assume that, however, since he's not my pastor and I've never sat under his teaching. If he had a problem with her behavior, he needed to do what the Bible says and to go to her privately and speak to her. Then if she doesn't listen, take another one with you as witness. Saying things to her out loud in a congregation is cruel.
