The virtues of promiscuity

"Slutty" behavior is good for the species. That's the conclusion of a new wave of research on the evolutionary drives behind sexuality and parenting.

Women everywhere have been selflessly engaging in trysts outside of matrimony for a good long time and for excellent reasons. Anthropologists say female promiscuity binds communities closer together and improves the gene pool.

Try living in New Orleans and do a survey to see how many are Socialists.

What has this to do with the stupid statement I was responding to?

This is so funny. There's another post that you and I have contributed to this morning, a study which says single guys die sooner. So the message of these combined studies would seem to be "get married...it'll increase your life expectancy, so you'll have a good long time to see your wife screwing around on you". Sheesh...

Whatever happened to the evidence that incidence of cervical cancer increases with the number of sexual partners?

I think the point of this article is more simple: women should be sluts - biology has proven it. So got out and enjoy getting laid as often as you like - it's ok.

Multiple lovers, that's just part of the life. It's recreation, just like races and running. It's all done in the spirit of joy and fun," says William Crocker of the Smithsonian Institution

Crocker says the Canela's sexual customs began to disappear after the arrival of traders, who brought in material goods such as machetes, axes, pots and pans, introducing the idea of exclusive ownership. The missionaries came next. The evangelists, who arrived in the early 1970s, translated the Bible into Canelan and did their part to discourage the tribe's sexual intimacy.

So the Canelas 'free' lifestyle which is done in 'the spirit of joy and fun' was discouraged by evangelists? To me, this is a slight on the Bible and the morality taught within it. How dare those evangelists try to spread the Gospel. Look what they've tried to do to the 'free' people in Brazil!!

Why do you single out Pubbies, ma'am? Why not also point to the Rats who have betrayed their wives...the likes of Mr. Chappaquidik (sp?) Kennedy, Condit, and of course the obvious Comrade Klinton. Methinks you've just showed your true colors, eh?

Oh great, let's base "normal" sexuallity on the most primative race we can find.

Anyone else see the logical falicies here?

And, if you want to live the way they do, this is the perfect way to make it happen.

Like it or not, men tend to do more for their families if they're certain the children are their biological own. No wonder they still live in grass huts if the women are so promiscuous.

Crocker was commenting on the customs of the tribe in question, because they considered their actions in the spirit of joy and fun. He was speaking of the tribal attitude toward 'multiple lovers'. The fact is that the missionaries who arrived did change the system. I don't see a value assesment in the article, and as an anthropological study a value assesment of any sort would be inappropriate anyway.

Yes, nothing a man likes better than to hang out with folks who know he was cuckolded.

Obviously, "Crimes of Passion" are a complete myth.

More than 20 tribal societies accept the principle that a child could, and ideally ought to, have more than one father, according to Pennsylvania anthropologist Stephen Beckerman.

Interesting, all the societies he cites seem to stuck in the stone age. They never developed a high level of technology. They also have primitive economies. How would anyone start a family business? For that matter why would anyone bother trying to ensure that his offspring enjoy a higher standard of living than he did or his father did?

This is just what I would expect from San Francisco, a
place where I wouldn't use their restrooms or restaurants
for any reason imaginable.

Sometimes I wince and cringe at the junk that floats past our eyes here. Those that paint with large brushes have junk all over their feet.

Of course, they are too busy screwing each others brains out to advance beyond the stone age. : )

Well the article doesn't predict that they should be out of the stone age. The article does not claim that promiscuity is good for societial advancement, only for perpetuation (and perhaps proliferation) of the species.

Look at the conclusions you can draw from the incorrect superstitions of primitive people?

Next up, anthropologists will help Boeing design the next airliner after studying cargo cult peoples.

Reality: stoneaged primitives living in mud huts and no clothes.

Spin: Anthroplogist's dreamy eyed fuzz brained imaginations of idealitic socialistic-sexual uptopian existance. Remember Mz. Mead and her fantasies.

Reality 2: Some filmaking anthropologists have a film to sell and reputations to make for the speaking and seminar circuit. This kind of poisonous mush, being as it advocates "stone aged near-animals are better than theat horrid evil white man" sells. That it deconstructs marriage and monogamy even better entre to the market.

Reality 3: Another product of the Canela Indian franchise (TM). Serving fuzz brains hack-a-demics and touristas for over thirty years.

---------------------

Among the tribes studied, the life span isn't long enough to get it and there are no doctors to diagnose it.
