Probably no one would complain about an objective study of comparative religions, but devoting a whole course to Islam and using a text written and promoted by an Islamic advocacy group is a whole different matter. That was what the UNC was doing.

The Muslim pressure groups have been very successful at getting their "texts" into American classrooms. They were using one in the California public school system for a while that not only was virtually a proseltysing manual for Islam, but contained really awful comments about Jews. It was recently dropped, but only after an outcry from parents. These groups have big bankrolls and spend lots of money getting school systems and universities to accept their materials.
