Young says McKinney campaign 'fudged' taped endorsement
By BILL TORPY Former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young says a recorded telephone message with him endorsing Rep. Cynthia McKinney is "a fudge." The message, coupled with recorded endorsements by actor Robert Redford, former basketball star Magic Johnson and former President Bill Clinton, played to thousands of homes in the Fourth Congressional District over the past weekend. However, the popular former mayor and U.N. ambassador did not record the endorsement this year and said Monday he told the campaigns of McKinney and challenger Denise Majette that he was going to sit this primary election out. "It must be recycled," he said of the recording. "I really didn't want to get involved." Young said he has not said anything to the McKinney campaign about using the old tape. "I'll just let it slide," he said. "I admire Cynthia and her outspokenness and strength, but I also admire Denise," said Young, repeating what several politicians have said who have been caught in the middle of this bitter Democratic primary race for McKinney's seat. "I don't agree with what Cynthia said," he said, referring to her comments about President Bush's friends making money from the Sept. 11 attacks. "But I am glad she said it. In a democracy, the worst thing we can have is no controversy." State Rep. Tyrone Brooks, McKinney's re-election chairman, said he was surprised to hear Young was not endorsing the congresswoman. "I am baffled; I thought Andy Young was still with us," said Brooks. "It sounded like it had just been recorded. "I heard from constituents in DeKalb County saying they have heard from Andy Young," said Brooks, who said the media coordinator must have pulled a tape from a previous campaign from the archives. "We all assumed he was still with us."

Majette, who said she had been assured by Young that he was remaining neutral, said, "I'm glad the ambassador set the record straight. Once again, my opponent has been disrespectful and dishonest to the voters -- and the ambassador."
No baiting involved, as you pretty well know. Now, if FreeRepublic would live up to what it purports about "antisemitism is not tolerated here", we'd have no beef. As it is, FreeRepublic isn't only tolerating antisemitism but encouraging it, by placing LarryLied/Voegelin under "special protection".
Wake up. You have droves of nazis posting here - the latest one I have pointed to is kdoxxx, in here from polinco - and you have chosen to let him stay on, obviously.
SSSSHHHH!!! There's still more than 12 hours 'til the polls open! Y'never know what they can do with computers anymore!!!
Ah, but he told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, for which I'm grateful.
McKinney lied. "Democrat liar" is a little redundant.
I caught that too....really disturbing stuff. I will probably have nightmares.
McKinney won't change her views, any more than the NEA will stop recommending teachers talk about "historical instances of American intolerance" during discussions of 9-11, and urges teachers "not to blame any one group". CNN tapes or no CNN tapes.
Conversly, I believe this is why McKinney will lose. American voters just aren't real thrilled with anything having to do with radical Islam...that, IMO includes a lot of Democrats, though THEY'LL never admit to such divisive feelings.
SERIOUS TIMES FOR SERIOUS PEOPLE --- WHY JIHAD CINDY NEEDS TO GO
Well -- 48 hours from now we'll know whether or not the "strategic choice" of the Islamic Jihad, Cynthia McKinney, is going to return to Washington as an elected representative. The Democratic Party in Georgia did everything it could to insure her reelection. When the map was redrawn Demcorats looked at all of the precincts in Cynthia's core district where support was light. Those precincts were drawn out of her district.
There are two things that could result in Jihad Cindy's defeat.
(1) McKinney's black constituents could come to the realization that this woman has no juice Washington. She is considered to be a mouthy loose cannon who must be tolerated, but who won't be taken seriously. The DeKalb County government has already realized this. That's why taxpayers in Cynthia's district are paying nearly $100,000 for lobbying on behalf of county government in the Beltway. Yes, this is Cynthia's job. But Cynthia isn't up to it. She's too busy counting campaign donations from the very people who brag of their goals to kill as many innocent Americans as possible. If she wins, she's going to owe these people, big time.
(2) A large Republican crossover vote. Nice idea, but don't hold your breath. There will be tennis matches, tee times and minivans to get washed. Today, there's talk about a big crossover vote. On Wednesday we'll be wondering where all of these crossovers were.
Kathleen Parker says it well in her syndicated column today:
. the reason McKinney needs to go is because these are serious times for serious people. As never before, we need temperate voices and cool heads in Washington. We need keen intellects and educated minds to weigh decisions that could mean life or death to millions and dictate the unforeseeable future. McKinney's volatile, explosive, rabble-rousing style and her race-baiting, conspiracy-spouting hysterics may have been effective campaign strategies in the Georgia of 1992 when she was first elected. Her political antics may have kept her in headlines and animated a Georgia church pew or two, but we can no longer afford her ilk. Histrionics and pantomime are pastimes of peace times, and we enjoy no such luxury now.McKinney needs to go, but we don't always get what we need.
Oh, I'm sure it'll get spun, but I'm curious as to how Bill Nigut will spin it...
What on earth did the Cutest Commie in Congress do to the Journel.... not that I'm complaining mind you, but that must have been one heck of a tail stomp.
I'm rather looking forward to seeing the election results tomorrow, provided that she doesn't have every dead person in the district voting!

Wish they would go after Barbara Lee (D-CA) she is far worse than McKinney (look up her connections with the CPUSA and giving classified information to Castro). But AIPAC likes Barbara Lee apparently. Too bad. Duhh, Lied, same nonsense thread after thread. As has been frequently explained, you cant go after Barbara for several reasons. THE PRIMARY IS OVER. SHE WON. EVEN IF IT WASNT, SHE WAS NOT OPPOSED BY A SERIOUS CANDIDATE IN THE PRIMARY. NO ONE TO SUPPORT. Good news, though, since the Republicans dont run anyone serious against her either, you can continue to complain about AIPAC not funding her opponent, while you cheerlead for Cindy. Poor Cindy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yikes! Flee Cindy! Flee! The Long Knives are out! Bill Kristollnacht has arrived!

FYI, as LL knows, the election is over, so it's too late to fight Lee. And she had no viable opponent. In fact as in McKinney, even the R's run only tokens against her.
Too bad, given the not insurmountable cost of a run in most house districts, it might be worth a selective try once in a while. Jihad Cindy's district would have been a distinct possibility if she wins, though again, to my knowledge, the Republicans have no strong candidate in the race.
AFAIK, you're right.
What makes you assume their messages aren't similarly "recycled"?

I'm waiting. But I expect I'll be waiting for a while.
Boorzt always trashes Dunwoody, but we usually have pretty good turnout from some numbers I've seen. I'm predicting a strong turnout for Majette tomorrow in Dunwoody, based on the phone calling and sign waving I've done.
McKinney's black constituents could come to the realization that this woman has no juice (in) Washington.
I think that may be the case, and that 9/11 woke a lot of them up. DeKalb County is has one of the largest, richest buppie constituencies in the country. These folks are not natural allies of a Cynthia McKinney, and Denise Majette is the perfect candidate for them.
