Hundreds of Taliban and al Qaeda prisoners captured by Afghanistan's Northern Alliance last November were stuffed into sealed cargo containers and died of asphyxiation, U.N. and human-rights officials charge.

U.N. officials and rights activists say as many as 1,000 fighters may have been left to die in the containers - and the Boston-based Physicians for Human Rights say they have seen the putrefying remains of prisoners who were tied up in their own turbans and buried in mass graves.

Both the Northern Alliance and the Taliban have used "death by container" as a cheap means of mass murder in the past.

What you described is known in military parlance as "Payback". I believe that in the vernacular of the streets, you have just provided an example of the phrase "what goes around, comes around".

Personally, I consider this practice barbaric, but then the people we are dealing with are the closest things to true barbarians since the Visigoths. All of them. On both sides.

Those individuals that were executed won't commit any more acts of terror. Some how this death pales in comparison to the way the innocent civilians died in the World Trade Center attack!

This is an outrage!!!! Those cargo containers were probably rendered unusable until they were scrubbed out and disinfected. Who is going to pay for that? Where is the public out-cry?

Other news reports have filled in a small gap in the reporting: How did the Northern Alliance get these airless containers? - They were lying around because, previously, the Taliban had those same containers and had used them to pen up and suffocate their prisoners and enemies. Of course, when the Taliban were using them, the UN and the Red Cross didn't give a rat's rump.

You'll notice that the UN and Red Cross didn't show much interest in Americans being held by the North Vietnamese during the Vietnam War, nor have they ever shown such interest in the disappearance of Israeli soldiers captured by Syria.

Wake me up when captured Taliban are made to jump out of 100th floor windows. In the meantime, feed them Alpo and Spam and I don't care what happens to them, except, of course, if they ever escape.
