Embattled media mogul Martha Stewart is said to see a political conspiracy behind the deepening investigation into her questionable stock trades, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
"Martha really believes it is the Republicans who are behind this -- and they are chasing her for purely political reasons," a Stewart intimate said this weekend.
"Martha told me that she believes they are doing the very same thing to her, they did to President Clinton. What Ken Starr did. She believes it is nothing short of a witch hunt! They are even digging into her private e-mails! They are demanding to know who she's dated. Martha said to me, 'Can you believe they want to know who I'm dating?' Republicans on Capitol Hill are probing her sex life!"

The close Stewart friend, who demanded not to be named out of fear of being dragged into the investigation, spoke just hours after Justice Department officials sacked her stockbroker's offices - removing boxes of evidence related to the ImClone stock scandal.
"Who runs the Justice Department? Republicans. Who runs the House of Representatives, and these committees looking into Martha? The Republicans," said the Stewart friend. "Guess who is a major force in raising money and contributing to Democrats?"

The close Stewart friend predicted Americans will rally behind Stewart the same way many did with President Clinton during his impeachment.
"Once all the facts come out about this abuse of power, about these subpoenas, which ask for every detail on Martha's very private life, people will come to her side."
A spokesman for the House Energy and Commerce Committee strongly denied congressional investigators are being motivated out of any political concern and noted questions about a subject's personal contacts with other individuals are standard.

Remember, no one associated with the Clintons ever escapes with reputation and fortune unharmed. If Martha is smart, she would throw herself on the mercy of the DOJ and turn on them all, for they are surely turning on her.
Sure, this whole episode is a giant witch hunt. The Adelphia guys were scapegoats, all these guys are, to the extent that they may be getting sentenced overly severely for politics' sake. (Which point you made.)
Yes, these people probably violated the law, though, and it's about time that white collar crime was dealt with,(justly) for the health of the economy.
But more than these CEOs and so on, I blame all the people who made excuses for illegal behavior during the Clinton trial just because they were making money then, and they didn't want to upset the balance of profitability with a change of leadership.

ROFL! Martha Stewart has a lot in common with Leona Helmsley. She thinks only the little guy needs to follow the rules but that's par for the course for liberals. If her friend thinks most Americans wouldn't like to see her taken down several pegs and spend some time in prison he and Martha are living on a different planet than the rest of us. The truth of the matter is people don't like CEOs these days. Bill Simon had the unfortunate experience of finding out just how true that perception is and the fact Martha Stewart is a liberal is not going to shield her from the consequences of her running afoul of the laws. As for there being a vast right wing conspiracy to do her in and that Republicans are interested in her sex life, two things come to mind: no body has ever paid attention to her and I can't think of anyone who thinks Martha is sexy. Bottom line: Martha is going to go down and I will get a spasm of pleasure seeing her get her justly deserved reward.
