Free Republic Network Conference a Roaring Success! Participants post your comments here

Dear Freepers:

I just returned from the First Annual Free Republic Network Convention in Las Vegas.

The Free Republic Network Cruise last October was the most fun I've ever had in my whole life. The Free Republic Network Conference I just attended was the most informative and inspiring two days I've ever had in my whole life.

The Free Republic Network is stretching its muscle, not by talk, but by action. The Free Republic forum is liberty's college. The Free Republic Network is liberty's workplace.

If you attended, please use this thread to post your observations, comments and highlights of the conference. I will give mine below. But before I do, I'd like to take this time to thank Bob Johnson and the FRN board for putting on this conference. It's hard for me to find the words to adequately describe how great this experience was--and how much I learned.

"And, I don't believe I can intelligently blame AFers for that."

Aw, go on...we're being blamed for a lot less, for a lot less reason, over at AF.

Thank you for your contributions to this thread. However, we have determined that they do not fit our needs at the present time.

Outside of the Judie Browns and Phyllis Schlafleys, however, we don't have a lot of women in leadership or highly visible roles who are pro-life and who can take on the she-wolves of the pro-abort movement.

Then that should be our focus. Finding eloquent and patiently convincing women, or complementary she-wolves, and not trying to push men as the Salesperson. Maybe Coulter? Or you? (They did say that appearance is 55% of the argument, after all.)

I've always preferred "analphabetic".

THE FRIVA WAS AN ENORMOUS SUCCESS!

OPH, I hope they take that back to the skunk hole where they belong.

I think it's called "alexia"--inability to comprehend the written word.

I am in the camp that supports putting pro-life on the back burner.

Ok. Here's the back burner. Go ahead and put it back there...;-)

2J- Can I send you to Tooks corner from here? A Balrog is not an appropriate abortion argument!

They aren't doing so hot with the spoken word, either.

I suspect the very Catholic Tolkien would disagree.

Ok...I'll put away my palantir...

Would you feel that way if you knew the majority of voters were pro-life?

Certainly... But I don't get the feeling the majority of voters wants to see abortion outlawed. I may live in a more liberal area than some, but my impression is that abortion is one of those issues that takes over the platform, and many who may agree with conservative fiscal policy will not vote for someone who might DO something to stop abortion. It is just my impression.

I suppose you meant to tell me you think I am wrong and the message got burned up in the Balrog?

AM, Thanks for posting this thread. I have been very disappointed in the direction much of it has taken. I would draw attention to a point that Matt Lewis made: Know who your audience is. The audience for this thread should be those thousands of FReepers and lurkers who weren't able to attend but are interested in the Conference and the Network. Giving them an idea of the events and excitement that occurred is the point of this thread, IMO. Stressing controversial points (made or inferred) from the conference; engaging in polemics about various such points; engaging in personal invective; evidencing defensiveness with respect to an opinion; not taking the debate to a place where it would be appropriate (i.e. another dedicated thread)--these are all examples of political immaturity and not recognizing what the point of the "Conference Report" thread should be. I am embarrassed to have linked this thread to the Wisconsin page. Hope it can get back on message.

Sure sounds like a success to me. Listening to Chuck Muth's remarks at the dinner right now. Heard him speak at CPAC as well and he tells it like it is. Says we gotta grow the conservative movement from the ground up. Stop giving money to the national candidates and parties and give your money to good conservative local candidates.

When is the LI coming to Phoenix BTW? I'd like to be there...
