Caption these Islamic women shopping for swimsuits

Two Turkish women look at Islamic bathing suits in a shop in Istanbul, Turkey, in this Aug. 9, 2002 photo. Islamic bathing suits fit loosely so as not to show off the outlines of women's body and are made of a synthetic material that dries quickly. The overwhelming majority of women at beaches in secular Turkey wear western-style bathing suits. (AP Photo/Osman Orsal)

How old are you? World War Two vets like my Dad didn't have any problems with their wives and daughters wearing shorts during long hot Missouri summers. And I'll take my late Dad's version of morality over the Islamic version any day.

You are presenting a false choice pard. There's plenty of Christian folks in this country that have a Christian view of morality. Your daddy is free to do as he pleases. The bottom line is that Muslims are not the only ones who seek to be modest. Good, old-fashioned Christian women in the USofA are trying to do it too. The missus and daughter have worn dresses and skirts through many a Texas summer and frankly they found that to be alot cooler than wearing shorts.

What would you say about modest Christian and Jewish women who seek to cover themselves? Are they a threat to America? In other words is this picture funny bencause these women are modest or because they are Muslim? From what I can tell those are the only options.

Besides, one's daddy being a WWII vet don't make one's opinion any more moral. My daddy was a Korean war vet and he wouldn't approve of women wearing shorts. Does that make his morality comparable to a Muslim terrorist?

But I got to laugh at people who make love through a triangular hole cut in a sheet - now that's pious!

Who does that?

Don't mess with me either, pard. My late Daddy had more modesty and integrity in his little finger than someone like you could ever possibly realize.

I better stop right there. Like my Grandmother always said, "Are you going to get in the ditch with them or walk the high ground?"

And guess what, I'll try hard to walk along that levee in my blue-jean shorts!

Your great grandmother would not have been beaten if she dared flash an ankle. There is difference.

Thank you for pointing out the obvious, Bella. Now maybe one of you bright bulbs can explain what the motive for posting this picture was. I assure you that it wasn't done to foster the rights or dignity of Islamic women.

So, forced "dignity" is a good thing, right?

What is the purpose for most of the "Caption this..." threads? Can we expect to see you on all of them, voicing anger over them?

And there is ample evidencethat these women also are "accessories to the crimes"
committed by their Muslim men over here.

Thanks for the pointer...and on-the-ground info.

While I was speaking up for the Turks in general, even they are under assault from
the fanatic/fundamentalis Muslims trying to turn back the clock. (This was well
documented on a PBS FrontLine special simply titled "Muslims" a few months ago.)

And this topic of whether women in Muslim countries are "victims" or "boosters" of
Islam got a good discussion on The McLaughlin Group last night (may have been a re-run...
it was a discussion of that report that basically said that the Arab world is stuck in
the 8th Century.)

I don't doubt that females aren't exploited in some Muslim countries...but surely
they are willing contributors to the terrorism and retrograde aspects of a most
of the Muslim world.

Turkey is a completely different picture. It's a lot like the US with regard to dress freedoms, but we won't let veiled women attend school nor work in the government.

Turkey is smarter. Look at the Persian women --usually when they're in the US, they dress very stylish and are beautiful women but when they go home they must dress in horrid brown rags. Muslims for the most part seem to despise beauty.

But, then again, I guess our culture has all of the answers. I mean, just think what they buy do if these women lived in the U.S. Letting it all hang out is just so sexy, isn't it? And if you don't have it all in the right places, it can always be either surgically removed, or pumped up with silicon.

For your "contribution" to this thread,
let me leave you with just one thought:
Rosie O'Donnel in a thong.

As a matter of fact, I have, on more than one occassion, expressed my disapproval of threads discussing Chelsea Clinton's appearance. And I, like everyone else here, have the right to post whatever I think on any thread that I choose. If those that run the place don't like it, they can boot me.

I didn't say anything about your daddy. I simply said that his vet status don't add anything to a debate about modesty. I simply am promoting the virtue of modesty. I suppose you believe folks that do so are walking the low ground. Whatever.

The bottom line is that Muslims are not the only ones who seek to be modest.

Much of Muslim modesty has nothing to do with real modesty because to them an elbow or a knee or an ankle is extremely sexual. We've had Muslim men almost go beserk over a male phlebotomist trying to collect blood and might try to peek at one of their wives' elbow areas. They're just sure everyone is as obsessed with sex as they are, they don't understand that American men can look at an elbow without becoming excited.
