[history]
Rural residents desperately seeking fast Internet connections are taking it upon themselves to get broadband service.
Last year, residents in Summit County, Colo., formed the Ruby Ranch Internet Cooperative (RRIC) Association, otherwise known as "the Co-op."
After 10 months of negotiations, Qwest, the main local telecommunications provider, told them it would cost too much to roll out digital subscriber line (DSL) or cable Internet access to the area.

Of course. Who doesn't know that? Hehe, just kidding. Not everyone's a phone technician (I am however) so thanks for the background stuff.

Lots of them lost out when the tech marekt collapsed. They made lots of business dealings where they sold equipment for stock. The stock plunged and they lost billions.

Broadband is wonderful. Routed all over the house, always logged-on...excellent download speeds.
But...I STILL want the telephone you can squirt seltzer through. = the END of telemarketing.

SDSL? Really now? That's what "Sparky" the engineer claims. (I work at a radio station)
He also claims incredible file transfer speeds, but when I download the same files at home it takes LOTS less time.
I mentioned this thread to Wife and Kidz and they agreed completely. Today we were finishing painting the living room. Normally we would have had a TV on. But it was off all day until the local news at 5pm. The computer was on however and we took turns surfing while we worked.
Things have changed.

Odds are the SDSL line is spliced amoungst several people at work. An SDSL line is supposed to give good high speed up and down. Unless of course the line quality is crappy and the RBOC isn't doing a good job at supplying it.

I love it when people brush aside "it can't be done," and actually go out and do it!
Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark; professionals built the Titanic. "Unknown"
How can it be "unknown" when it was heard from somebody to start with? No credit given where credit is due!
