General Schwarzkopf, while not opposed to a run on Iraq, is also suggesting caution and prudence in the timing. I wonder what your thoughts might be on his views as expressed on Field Marshall Matthews show?

I will say that it's hard to make a case for attacking Iraq, because it makes the best sense in the context of imposing indefinite American military hegemony over a significant portion of the Middle East. Once there is a large-scale, permanent American presence on Iraqi soil, we will be able to impose our will with very brief notice upon any part of the region. That's the real reason for invading Iraq, but it would be impolitic to say so.

In the NY Times front page campaign to "get Bush," Howell Raines and Pinch Sulzberger have given their leftist reporters free rein - never mind the paper's reputation which they are rapidly squandering. Elizabeth Bumiller, one of the worst offenders, turns Scowcroft's feeble piece plus a misrepresentation of what Kissinger said into "a growing chorus" of republican opposition to Bush. For the left, the US is the real enemy, the locus of capitalist exploitation and oppression, and terrorist assaults are no more than the unfortunate result of US misconduct. The left and the democrats have all fallen into line on trying to stop our defending ourselves. They are as suicidal as the Israeli left, constantly trying to undermine Israel's defensive efforts. Too bad they can't do their suicide thing without involving the rest of us!
