Hundreds of Palestinians took to the streets in Gaza yesterday to participate in a Fatah-led demonstration in support of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
The demonstrators chanted anti-US and anti-Israel slogans such as "Lets kill ever American" and "the Christians and Jews must all be killed", they burned flags of both countries and fired shots in the air, while calling on Saddam to attack Tel Aviv The protests, which took place amid attempts by Israeli leaders to negotiate a "Gaza first" ceasefire, were an additional indication of the growing tension in the region spurred by reports that the US is determined to topple Saddam.
Marching through Rafah refugee camp, the demonstrators waved Palestinian flags as well as posters of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and Hussein.
"We are marching to Iraq, giving millions of martyrs on the way," they chanted.
Many of the marchers were teenagers and some were children. Some marched with bare chests, clutched automatic machine guns and had black paint smeared on their faces like combat soldiers. Raouf Barbakh, a member of Arafat's Fatah movement and an organizer of the rally, said Palestinians and Iraqis shared "the same present and the same future."
"America supports Israel with weapons to kill Palestinians and at the same time the United States bombs Iraqis," he said. "As Palestinians we reject America's plans to oust Saddam, the same as we reject its demands to oust Arafat," he added. A Palestinian group that handles the distribution of money to bereaved families says Saddam has sent at least $30 million in cash to support the families of Palestinian men killed in the current intifada.
The money has been distributed at ceremonies in Gaza and the West Bank. The families of Palestinians who carried out suicide attacks against Israeli targets receive about $25,000, while families of victims are given about $10,000.
Cool! We could toss in Iraqi flags, too, and have a coordinated nation wide flag burning. Really tweak the weenies.

I've never subscribed to the idea that "might makes right," but in this case, I think it's clear that right makes might, and the will to use it.
Quite possible. I hadn't thought of that. I just know the Chinese improved the targeting and doubled the range of Saddam's scuds.
Yes, Israel should be allowed to join the coalition...they wanted to during the Gulf War, and President Bush would have welcomed them...it was the anti-semitic pre-EUroweenies and the Arabs who would not have it, and the president was forced to bend to international pressure for the sake of winning the war. Now things are different. It is said by the leftist press that we might not GET a coalition...that we might have to go it alone. Perhaps a coalition with open cooperation between Israel and the US is the way to go...after all, both countries are d@mned if they do and d@mned if they don't.
By all means Pali's, please do! (How come visions of lemmings marching over cliffs come to mind?)
