Your post said that it looks like Ashley was molested by so many... As someone in her shoes a hundred years ago, I can tell you that men do prey on girls that have already been abused. I was sent as a ward of the court to stay with my aunt for my own protection (and I was younger than these two girls). My uncle chased me around the house trying to "kiss" and grab at me, and when I kept running around the table and wouldn't get near him he said, "see now, are you sure your stepdad wasn't just trying to give you a fatherly kiss like I was?" Yeah right! Yet, I already knew no one would believe me, I was the trouble maker so I never mentioned it. This man sounds like the Avilla pervert that murdered the little Runnion baby, they both committed their acts repeatedly without any consequence to them, escalating as they went along their merry evil way...

Question: If this man confessed to his son Francis that he had killed the two Oregon City girls, what took him so long to contact the police? One more question: why did Francis allow his girlfriend to go to his father's house unaccompanied, knowing that is father was a killer?

I'm not doubting Francis' story, but have to say that this is one horribly screwed-up family. In fact, every family involved in this sad story is messed up. Miranda Gaddis' mother admitted that she was friends with ANOTHER sex criminal (now in prison) who she allowed to stay in their apartment off and on. Both girls' fathers are in prison for sex crimes. The apartment house in which the girls lived is a subsidized-housing project. One girl's mother is living with her boyfriend (not her kids' father.) From the news reports I've seen (I live in Portland), Miranda looked very provocative for a 13-year-old. I'm not saying this is her fault; but I'm wondering about her mother's judgement.

It's a long, depressing story of poverty, stupidity and mothers not taking their daughters' safety seriously. White trash is an overused epithet, but in this case, it applies.
